'Dr. Bob' and his twinkling smile are one of my fondest memories of the time I spent working in the MCG Thoracic surgery division. There are not enough praises to be said for all he and 'Dr. Lois' have accomplished to improve the quality of life for all. He will be greatly missed, but always remembered as a wonderful person, an outstanding physician and a true gentleman.

Bob, Penny, Bobby and Lauren:

Neissa and I were real sad to hear of Dr. Ellison's passing. We always enjoyed seeing him at the ballpark for Bobby's baseball and at the gym for Lauren's basketball. It was evident by the smile on his face and his happy demeanor that he really enjoyed watching those two and hanging out in the stands with Bob and Penny.

We are thinking of you guys.

Some of my fondest memories are of the summer after my junior year at MCG, working on thoracic surgery with Dr Ellison (I still can't bring myself to use first names for Dr. Ellison or Dr. Moretz) and Dr. Lois Ellison. He will be sorely missed. I feel like I lost another highly respected and beloved mentor.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Ellison family. Although I did not know Dr. Ellison personally,(I am a friend of John and Jackie) I feel he has touched my life and had an impact on my family. My infant son has had 2 open heart surgeries at The Childrens Hospital of Emory and several Doctors commented on the respect they had for Dr. Ellison and for what he has accompolished.

In May of 1967, Dr. Ellison saved my mother's life. Her regular cardiologist had given up on her, but he insisted on having mother moved so that Dr. Ellision could evaluate her. He took her immediately for cardiac surgery. Mother lived for another 14 years totally free of heart problems. Our sincere prayers are with Dr. Lois and the family during this time of sorrow. Dr. E will be missed.

Before helmets were required in football, I remember Bob acting as if he was angry, throwing his helmet, which could be folded and put in his pocket, on the ground, walking toward the sideline and then going downfield for a pass.

My deepest sympathy to all the Ellison clan especially my dearest friends, Bob and Penny. I think my fondest memory of Dr. Ellison was my first trip to San Franciso with Dr. Ellison Sr acting as host and tour guide. It was a marvelous, entertaining trip thanks to a great host and what a grand time I had! I know you will all miss him terribly but we will all see him again soon.

Vicki Adams Bonner

January 10, 2006

I literally owe my life to Dr. Ellison. In 1957 he performed open heart surgery on me at Talmadge Hospital to correct my heart valve. Being only 3 1/2 years old at the time, I do not remember much about him or the surgery directly, but I have been told by others that I was one of the first successful ones to be done there. I did see him making rounds at the hospital many years later as I visited my Grandfather and was in awe of meeting him.

I am thankful for his medical knowledge and skills that he shared by teaching others and used to heal others over the years.

May each of you know God's peace and presence today and always.
