Robert Newton Obituary

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Sunday, October 30, 2011, Mr. Robert L. Bob Newton, husband of Mrs. Emily Bargeron Newton. Mr. Newton was born in San Augustine, Texas but lived in Augusta for the past 55 years. While in the U.S. Army he was stationed at Fort Gordon. He loved working with his hands and became a mechanic and worked at a local car dealership before becoming the owner of his own service stations. Eventually, he founded Newton's Dyna-Tune in the Augusta area expanding to four locations. Mr. Newton had many and varied interests. He learned to fly and was an expert marksman while stationed at Fort Gordon. He loved golf, travel and adventure. He was a former member of the Jaycees, Shriners, Masonic Scottish Rites, and was active in the Automobile Service Council. Bob Newton was a former member of Burns United Methodist Church where he led many improvements and additions. He was a current member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Family members in addition to his wife include son: Randall L. Newton and wife Lori; daughters: Pamela N. Jordon and Debra L. Newton; grandchildren: Sarah V. Jordan and Tyler M. Newton; sister: Lois Marie Hale. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 3rd, 2011 at Wesley United Methodist Church with funeral services to follow at 3:00 pm Rev. Greg Porterfield and Rev. Pat Williams officiating. Burial will follow at 5:00 pm at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Duane Bargeron, Cliff Bargeron, Robert Bargeron, Ken Buzzard, Wayne Hardy, Richard Yzaquirre, Warren Waltz and Emmett Faulk, Dennis Ritz. God Bless Emily and her family at this difficult time in their lives. We cherish the memories of our dinners together with Bob and Emily. Despite his difficulties later in life, Bob always seemed to have such a positive attitude!
