Ruby Saxon

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Ms. Ruby Grace Saxon, of Augusta, entered into rest on Sunday, August 26, 2012. She was 72 years old. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta. The funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church. Ms. Saxon will lie in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral services. The committal services will follow at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Marion Jay will officiate. Pallbearers will be Robert Davis, Ryan Davis, Josh Phillips, Marvin Murphy, Jake Kite, and Steven Williams. Ms. Saxon is survived by her sons, Sidney Saxon (Sherry) of Augusta, John Saxon ( Debbie), of Hephzibah; her sisters, Margie Murphy, of Waynesboro, June Babb ( James), of Waynesboro, Opal Swearingen, of Augusta; and her brother, Irvin Collins (Carol) of McBean; five grandchildren, Brian, Josh, Johnny, Lori, and Alicia; four great grandchildren, Ayden, Landyn, Austin, and Cohen. Ms. Saxon was preceded in death by her parents, Hammond Irvin Collins and Mildred Sims Collins; her sister, Vera Rabun; and brothers in law, Bubba Swearingen and Clifford Murphy. Ms. Saxon was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement, Ms. Saxon was employed with the Kendall Company for 35 years. She was a member of the Augusta Reelers. Ms. Saxon was a breast cancer survivor of 17 years.
