Ruth Ona Diamond "Mumu" Kirkland

BARNWELL, S.C. - Mrs. Ruth Ona (Mumu) Diamond Kirkland, 90, widow of Needham Franklin Kirkland, died Friday at the Aiken Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Kirkland was born on February 23, 1915 in Barnwell County. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Lucy Vickery Diamond. She was a graduate of Barnwell Schools and Florida College of Business. She retired as chief operator form Southern Bell with 32 years of service. She was an active member of the Barnwell United Methodist Church, serving as chairperson of the Chat-n-Chew Club, member of the official board of the church, Sr. Adult Sunday School Class and the Martha Riley Circle. She was a member of the Barnwell United Methodist Women with life membership recognition. She was a member of the Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Club. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Barnwell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joey McDonald officiating. The burial will be private. Memorials may be made to theBarnwell United Methodist Church, Main St., Barnwell, SC. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Mole Funeral Home. Survivors include daughters, Lucy Jane Kirkland Hudson of Barnwell, Willye Ona Kirkland (Dan) Hunt of Greenville; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
