Steve will always hold a special place in our hearts. He was suppose to be the best man at our wedding, but he left for the military. When he got stationed in Columbus, Ga., we went to spend a few days with him and his wife. We spent time racing his remote control cars around his living room & talking about our days on the football field, simply acting like the big kids we were. RIP my friend. You will never be forgotten.

To the family, I am deeply sorry, the world and the Army lost a great man!! Rest in peace Sir! I hope you are smiling in heaven like you always did in the Army.

I am still in shock about your passing. You gave me my opportunity to command the 632nd Maintenance Company, 87th CSSB. You were a great mentor. You challenged us, recognized us and when we needed it, scolded us. All of it was done out of your genuine concern for our success. Your leadership style was one worthy of emulating. You will be missed. RIP Sir.

To the Lambert Family. I was saddened to hear about the passing of a man who I admired and looked up to. COL Lambert was my Battalion Commander and I was his Command Sergeant Major with the 87TH CSB from 2005 through 2007. He always allowed me to do my job for the Soldiers and Family of the 87th CSB. Our most memorable moments was our deployment to Taji Iraq and bringing our Soldiers home safely. Rest in peace Sir. CSM(R)Jimmy Pegues (BASE WARRIORS)!!!

Sir,
You will be missed. As a young officer you taught me what right looks like and how to go about getting things done not only as a Soldier but as a man. The life lessons you shared with me has shaped the man I am today and I thank you for that. There were times when you could have washed your hands of me during the midst of my problems but you stayed the course and worked with me. Sir, I thank you my wife thanks you and you will always be in our thoughts. Your LTC and his spouse you shaped to continue to do great things . Wes and Rochelle and we love you!

To the Lambert family:
When I was a somewhat nervous and awe-eyed, eager freshman at TW Josey High, I walked into stadium the first day of summer football practice with excitement and anticipation of doing what I had been waiting to do throughout my childhood, be part of a high school football team. Because of my thin 140 lb frame, I was placed with the Receivers squad. Each squad (linemen, running backs, defensive backs etc..)had a senior who was the squad leader who was a starter letterman for that position to guide and mentor us younger underclassmen players to teach us the legendary Coach Al Young's Split-T playbook system (he brought from his playing days with the Pittsburgh Steelers :-) ). The mentor of our receivers squad was of course Steve Lambert.
Steve was such a mellow, cool brother whose calm demeanor helped me with my sense of confidence to go onto the field and deliver on the drills, plays and anything the coaching staff required of me. Always had a smile on his face long as I remember.
Although I don't quite recall seeing him or speaking with him since he left Josey as we obviously traveled different directions in life, if I had the chance to tell him, I would have told him how his leadership and mentorship to me as a 14-year-old kid trying to find his way in one of the most popular high schools in Augusta left an impact on me. So since I can no longer tell him this in the physical here on this side, I can at least share this with you all. Thank you for sharing him with everyone whose lives he touched in one way or another.
My sincere prayers and condolences to you all for this sudden change in your lives and the new chapter of it. May God's loving everlasting arms bring, healing, comfort and courage to all of you in the coming difficult days. Much love.

To say that I am shocked and saddened is an understatement. I have known Steve for all of my military career. We entered the Army together as second lieutenants at the Transportation Officer Basic course, Fort Eustis, VA in 1987. We remained friends ever since. He had high aspirations for his military career and beyond. My condolences go out to his family and friends. He will surely be missed.

We didn't get to say goodbye,
The day you went away.
The Angels came and called you,
You had no time to stay.
No time to hug us all farewell
Tell how we made you proud,
No time to say you loved us so,
Such goodbyes were not allowed.

I wish you peace and happiness
Please forgive the tears We cry
I know that we will meet again,
But We wished we'd said goodbye.
