Reverend Wilfred Charles Hunt (Granchuck)
Augusta, GA—Reverend Wilfred Charles Hunt (Granchuck), 91, husband of the late Alice Blonski Hunt, entered into rest Saturday, November 9, 2019 at his residence.
Funeral services with Full Military Honors will be held Saturday, November 16, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Memorial United Methodist Church with Reverend John Donaldson officiating.
Internment will follow at the Alleluia Community Cemetery in Dearing, Georgia.
Reverend Hunt, son of the late Gladys Naomi Balch Hunt and Wilfred James Hunt, was born in Oregon and raised in Alberta, Canada, the grandson of pioneers. He was a 26-year veteran of the United States Army, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, earning the Purple Heart, the Silver Star, and the Air Medal. Upon his retirement from the military, he attended Local Pastors' School at Candler School of Theology and became a Methodist minister assigned to the Augusta District, where he served for nearly 20 years before retiring due to blindness. He then began short-term missions that included many countries of Africa, Ukraine, Poland, Australia, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, and numerous other locations until he was no longer physically capable of travel.
He was a Full Covenant Member of the Alleluia Community from 1975 until his death. He was also extremely active in the Republican Party. Upon his retirement from active ministry, he attended Burns Memorial UMC and was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School class.
He was preceded in death by his son, Wilfred Charles Hunt II.
He is survived by his children, Tenny N. Morgan (Jonathan) of Bakersfield, CA, Toni A. Hobson (James) of Evans, Trina C. Barnes (Russell) of Dearing, and Patricia D. Doughty (Donald) of Augusta; his brothers, Paul Hunt and Dick Hunt; his sisters, Marianne Roe and Faye Schultz; his grandchildren, Wilfred Charles Hunt III, W. Claude Hunt, Georgianna Hunt Clemmons, Daniel Morgan, Lydia Morgan Westlake, Jonathan Morgan II, Priscilla Morgan Barthelmes, Alicia Hobson Whitehead, James Hobson Jr., Bradley Hobson, Amanda Barnes Wilkey, Russell Barnes II, Deanna Doughty, Dane Doughty, and Daelyn Doughty; and 23 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, November 15, from 5 -7 p.m. followed by his Celebration of Life Service, beginning at 7 p.m. at Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, 2502 Richmond Hill Road, Augusta, Georgia, 30996.
