William Force Obituary

Bill Force, 79, died on Friday, July 13, 2018, after a brief illness. He was the only child of Rose Wilson Force and William Minor Force.

Bill was a lifetime resident of Augusta. He attended Houghton Elementary, Tubman Junior High, and graduated from The Academy of Richmond County. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia Tech and was a member of The Georgia National Guard.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Frances "Panny" Weltch Force, daughter, Doris Brown (Gary), and son, William "Bo" Force (Marie) and grandson, John Weltch Force. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Jane and David Milligan as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Upon graduation from Georgia Tech he was employed by Ross Building Supply, and later by First Federal Savings and Loan Association where he became Executive Vice President. After retiring from banking, Bill enjoyed many years as a broker with Meybohm Real Estate and was grateful to continue there up to the present. Working with people and their families was a great pleasure to him, and he maintained these relationships through the years.

Bill was an active member of Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church and served on the board of trustees. He was a former member of West Augusta Rotary Club and active in the Forest Hills Townhouse Association and The Augusta Choral Society.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity-on-the-Hill Tuesday, July 17, at 2:00 PM, with visitation in the Gathering Area following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity-on-the-Hill, The Augusta Choral Society, or The Jessye Norman School of the Arts.

Well, really, will any of us ever FORGET him? No, of course. Although unlike many of you native, august Augustans, I knew Bill for only a few years having returned here after departing MCG in 1970. We looked at real estate, even went to a few "garage" sales. The last time I saw Bill was at one of the Saint Paul's suppers and there he sat with that so-welcoming smile and gracious if not also gregarious spirit (uplifting everyone whom he greeted). Greetings to his family. James W Mimbs MD (summering for a spell with classical music in Brevard NC)

I worked with Bill when I first started in real estate with Meybohm Realtors many years ago, and actually, I just spoke to him a couple of weeks ago about a listing of his I wanted to show. He was unfailingly kind and cheerful, and always polite and ready to help others. God bless you all as you mourn the loss of this gentle soul.

Bill, was a hero of mind as a child. He lived a few doors down. He was a great Richmond Academy running back and went on to Georgia Tech under Boddy Dodd. As we both aged he was always wonderful to me. A great man his whole life.

Panny: Although a rather new friend of Bills, I enjoyed our conversations and debates about real estate in Augusta. We shared jokes and remembrances even at the July fourth celebration at St Paul's. I will miss him, his wit, and that dancing gleam in his eyes when he would encounter any of his many friends. Jim Mimbs
