William Bernard Troubh, 78 of Portland, Maine passed away November 8, 2013, surrounded by family.

William was born in Portland in 1935 to Maurice and Sadye Brickman Troubh. He was raised on Sherman Street and graduated from Portland High School, the University of Maine at Orono and received a law degree from University of Maine School of Law. William married Nancy Jane Shaw of Sanford on April 13th 1967.

William was a founding partner of the Portland law firm Troubh Heisler. In addition to his long-time practice of law, William was a compassionate public servant who led with honesty and integrity. He served multiple terms as City Councilor and was Mayor of the City of Portland in 1974/75 and 1983/84. William loved the City of Portland and was actively engaged in civic causes. Through his visionary leadership, William was instrumental in the development of the Portland Waterfront, Portland Sea Dogs, Cumberland County Civic Center and the Portland Ice Arena.

William always enjoyed time with his family and friends who looked forward to seeing his warm smile. His special times included fishing on Thompson Lake, golfing at the Portland Country Club, spending summer afternoons at Hadlock field and watching the Red Sox. Above all, William was a dedicated, loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather to his family. No matter how great or small the circumstances he was always there for support and guidance.

William is survived by his loving wife Nancy; His sons Kenneth and wife Stacy of Mill Valley, CA; Jed and his wife Bonnie of Falmouth, ME; Mikael and his wife Helena of Silver Spring, MD and Thomas and his wife Natalie of Hoboken, NJ; Grandchildren, Jared, Jessica, Samantha, Zoe, Alexander, Max, Hannah, Jacob and Isabelle. Brother; Raymond and Jean of New York, NY, and Sister Charlotte and Kevin of Cambridge, MA.

A 1:00 PM funeral service for William will be held this Monday, November 11, 2013 at Temple Beth El, 400 Deering Ave. Portland, ME. Burial will follow at Beth El Cemetery.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I worked with Bill when he was part of Richardson, Troubh & Heisler. I was the office clerk & then worked in the billing dept. Bill was nothing but kind to me for those 10 years and always gave me the warmest of greetings here at Eyecare & Eyewear when he came in for his exam. I know that he is missed already by so many. He touched so many lives in such a positive way. I know he loved his Seadogs as do so many of us. I will always think about him whenever I go to, or by, that ballpark for the rest of my life. To the Troubh family: Bill was a giant of a person, a true leader and visionary who never lost touch with real people and real issues. As an inexperienced lawyer I had one of my first cases against Bill when he was representing the Maine State Troopers. I can't remember who prevailed (probably Bill), but I was lastingly grateful for and impressed by Bill's kindness and graciousness to me even as he took total command of the forum. Bill used his intellect and warmth to accomplish big things for others and will remain an inspiration to the rest of us. I first met Billy Troubh when I was an intern in John Menario's office. I remember that he was part of a group of more " progressive" politicians that supported John's efforts to turn Portland into a "Model City" and Billy was one with great vision and articulate leadership. As a young student, he was one to whom I looked as a an example of a true public servant and gentleman.
