Antonio G. Arciga

1920 - 2018

Antonio G. Arciga, 98, of Aurora passed away surrounded by his family on August 10, 2018. He was born on April 22, 1920 in San Miguel Epejan, Michoacan, Mexico the son of Tiburcio and Dolores (Garcia) Arciga. In the 1970's he and his family immigrated to the United States. He worked as a practical industrial engineer at National Metal Finish and then later went on to work as a machine operator at Mississippi Valley Company. After retirement he enjoyed farming and gardening and worked at Frelks Farm. The family remembers a particular story from the terrible tornados that occurred in 1990. At the time he was working at Frelks and when the winds broke out, many people were there getting food, he saved the lives of many by keeping them safe in the cooler, the sturdiest and safest place for them to be. He enjoyed reading books on saints and he loved singing hymns. He was a devout Catholic and often prayed the Rosary. He recently sponsored his grandson during his time in the seminary and he was so proud when he was ordained as a priest in May. Above all else Antonio loved time spent with family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 77 years, Filomena "Gila"; children, Lucila (Guillermo) Cazarez, Margarita (Eugenio) Rodriguez, Rodolfo (Margarita) Arciga and Ma. Aurora (Gregory) Schiber, daughter-in-law Bertha Gutierrez. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Antonio Arciga Rios; siblings, Paz Arciga, Marcial Arciga, Eustorgia Arciga, Severiano Arciga and Hermila Arciga Alvarez. Family will be receiving guests on Monday, August 13, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway Ave. Montgomery, IL 60538. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, August 14th at 10:00 AM at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church, 750 West Old Indian Trail Rd. Aurora, IL.
