1931 - 2014

Bohr, Donald L. Of Aurora, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014, in his home surrounded by his loving wife, Valerie, and his children. He was born April 1, 1931 in Aurora, IL. Don was the proud owner of Don Bohr and Sons Concrete, Inc. of Aurora, IL. While raising their nine children, Don and his wife, Val, founded Don Bohr and Sons Concrete in 1975. Still family owned and operated by their sons, Don and Val's business legacy continues. Whether in the home or on the job, Don instilled in his children the value of quality workmanship. Don's children credit their father for teaching them that "a job worth doing is a job worth doing right". In addition to owning his own business, Don fulfilled another one of his life dreams when he and Val purchased a cabin on a lake in northern Wisconsin. He cherished his time "up north". Whether on the lake fishing, in the north woods or tinkering in his workshop, Don looked forward to summers up north with his wife, Val, his family and many good friends. Don loved to tinker. He spent many happy hours restoring his collection of International Farmall cub tractors and repairing small gasoline engines. Don's grandchildren and later his great-grandchildren loved to take a ride in a wagon pulled behind one of Grandpa's tractors. Don will also be remembered for his generosity to his church, the schools his children attended and his family. He worked hard, but what he gained in life he shared with others. Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Valerie; and their nine children, Mike (Sandy) Bohr, Gail (John) Geltz, Greg (Sharon) Bohr, Larry (Cindy) Bohr, Linda (Dave) Swift, Dan (Mary) Bohr, Gary (Ann) Bohr, Julie (Larry) Work and Chris (Roger) Goodson; 29 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; his sister, Carol (Jim) Hirner; stepsister, Sr. Collete Barker, O.P.; stepbrother, Greg (Mary) Barker; sister-in-law, Shirley Hankes; and 8 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marie Bohr; his mother and father-in-law, Ida and Russell Gramley; sister-in-law, Marilyn Lowe; brother-in-law, Norm Hankes; and nephew, "Skip" (Gerard) Hankes. Funeral from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY will be Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. to St. Joseph Church at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Jerome Leake will officiate with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery.
