Janet McCartney Obituary

Age 62 of Mt. Morris, IL, formerly of Elburn, IL, passed away Saturday morning, July 28, 2007 at her home. Having fought cancer courageously and held on with love tenaciously, Jan claims now the heavenly peace she so richly deserved.

She was born April 9, 1945 in Irvin IL, the daughter of Ralph E. and Lenora B. (Neisler) Burke.

Her early years were spent in Irving, IL until 1951 when the family moved to Lincoln, IL. In 1958, they came to make their home near Maple Park and Jan began High School at Kaneland.

Following graduation in 1963, she was united in marriage to William "Bill" McCartney on February 15, 1964 and they made their home in Elburn where they started a family in 1966.

Through the years, Janet worked in a number of local businesses but she was most fond of her years as one of the "lunch ladies" at the Kaneland Middle School. Through those same years, Jan dedicated countless volunteer hours at Elburn Lion's Park and was a faithful Den Mother of Cub Pack 107, as well. Between all her activities, Jan came to know everyone in town. Though years have come and gone, her friendships have remained and the life she lived, day by day, is her greatest legacy to her loved ones. Among them, her grandchildren were the top! Jan had a gift for writing poetry and she began writing special one's for her grandchildren's birthdays. Crocheting things for them as well, Jan so deeply loved her grandchildren, you could see the joy radiated from her very being when she was with them.

In 1990, as Jan and Bill went separate direction, Janet moved to Mt. Morris IL. There, the same Jan that made so many friends in Elburn, was "discovered" by neighbors, friends and co-workers there. She will be missed as she was loved, by family and friends both far and wide.

She is survived by two children,

Tim (Tina) McCartney of Colorado Springs, CO and Amy McCartney (Ted) Schabacker of Spragueville, IA as well as

their father, Bill McCartney of Elburn, IL; one brother, Roy (Judy) Burke of Hampshire, IL; three sisters, Elaine Bollinger (and special friend, Vern) of Elgin, IL,

Rita (Marion) Goff of Lincoln, IL, and Donna (David) Forth of Margate, FL; two granddaughters, Delanee and Caitlyn McCartney of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She joins now a number of loved one's and friends who have "gone home" before her,

her parents, Ralph and Lenora Burke; two brothers, Larry and Lyle Burke (brothers) and her good friend, Pat Henne.

A life long Elvis fan, Jan's loved one's are sure that "Beyond the Sunset" she would hope as well to see him as well!

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 1 from 4-8pm at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St.

Her funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 2 at 10:30am. Rev. David Bateman, family friend and pastor will officiate. Interment will follow at Gardner Cemetery, Maple Park.

A memorial has been established in Jan's name to benefit Ogle County Hospice as well as other favorite charities. Memorial che-cks may be made to the Janet McCartney Memorial and mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, IL 60119. Tributes and memories may also be forwarded to the family at the same address or through her obituary at www.conleycare.com. For information call 800-8-CONLEY.

Dear Amy,
I was saddened to hear of the loss of your Mother. I remember her cheerful attitude & sweet dispositon when working crafts during V.B.S. the same year you were in my Vacation Bible School class in Kaneville, Il. And I remember she loved you so much. You were a joy to her. May the sweet memories of your Mother forever be a comfort to you, as you were a comfort to her. She is with Jesus her Saviour as we too shall join her one day.
Love,

Rita Popenhagen

This was the loveliest tribute I have ever read about a lady who was obviously loved and respected by the author and many others. Although I did not have the pleasure of knowing Janet, through these beautifully written words I feel all of us have lost a friend. My deepest sympathy to her family and friends, and to the author, Thank You very much.

Amy and Tim
Your Mom will be missed. I was happy to have had her work for me. And her work for Reynale will never be forgotten. May she rest in the peace of Jesus.
