Jeffrey Swanson Obituary

Jeffrey K. Swanson, 71, a lifelong resident of Aurora, IL passed away peacefully on June 5, 2023. He was born on September 9, 1951 in Aurora, IL the son of Henry and Anna Marie (Hettinger) Swanson. He courageously fought colon cancer and eventually beat it. Jeff had a love for sports, especially baseball. He coached his sons in their youth sports at Our Lady of Good Counsel and their Legion baseball leagues. He was their biggest supporter in all that they did. Jeff was a longtime employee for the City of Aurora and retired in 2006 after 35 years of dedicated service. During retirement he found enjoyment in traveling to Arizona for Spring Training and enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida. He was a lifelong member at the Phoenix and Tiger Clubs in Aurora. He loved his family dearly and will be sorely missed by all.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley Swanson; sons, Nick, Andy (Kathryn) and Edward Swanson; grandchildren, Annalee, Cole, Natalie and Wyatt; siblings, Paul (Pat Leavitt) Swanson, Alan (Cassi) Swanson and Mary Woods; dear friends, Mike Lehnert and Ron Slewitzkie as well as one niece and 7 nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill Swanson.

Family will be receiving guests on Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway Ave. Montgomery, IL 60538. I'll never forget the first time I met Jeff. I was ushering mass (Christmas Eve?) at OLGC and one of his boys had just thrown up. Jeff walked to the back of church, larger than life as he always was, and he wanted to know where that vomit powder was. I found it and gave it to him, not daring to say a word! A few months later we were assigned to do the once-a-month counting for the mass contributions together. I asked if it was too soon to mention the first time we met. He laughed and from then on we enjoyed discussing and fixing all the world's problems, once a month in the basement of the rectory. We ended up coaching together all of his boys for the Tiger Club in legion league. Jeff and Shirley hosted the season ending party every year at their house. These were some of the best memories for me and my family. I am a better man thanks to Jeff, Godspeed to you sir! Blessings to Shirley and the entire family...
