Joseph Tolian Obituary

Joseph G. Tolian Joseph G. Tolian, age 56, of Batavia, IL passed away after a long battle with appendix and colon cancer on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, surrounded by his family, at his home. During his years of cancer treatments he was known for his colorful shirts and Crocs matches. He was born on February 4, 1953 in Benton Harbor, MI, the son of Joseph and Eleanor (Nagy) Tolian, who both preceded him in death. He married Phyllis Morrissette of Aurora on September 30, 1972, building a family from two children, all who survive. Joseph was a 1971 graduate of Marmion Military Academy, Aurora, and a 1975 graduate of Illinois Benedictine University, in Lisle IL. Joseph worked in the Information Technology industry for 40 years, as an employee and consultant of many companies. The most important part of his life was spending time with the family, by coaching soccer, scouting, or planning vacations together. Most vacations were to the warmth of Florida, where Joseph and Phyllis spent their first married vacation. Vacations were learning experiences where Joseph would drive the family to odd, off the road, historic or unique stops, away from the interstates. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Morrissette) of Batavia; son Christopher (Brenda) of Chatsworth IL; daughter, Catherine (Brent) Van Hooser of Aurora; granddaughters, Lauren, Sedona, Layla, Faith, Lila, Anna Tolian, Phoneix and Hera Van Hooser; sister, Nora Anderson of Batavia, special sister Susan (Dennis) Vosberg of Peoria; sister-in-law and husband, Deborah and Jack Meyers; niece and nephew, Andrew and Jennifer Meyers; a large number of cousins and friends who saw Joseph through these past few years. Funeral Services will be held at The Healy Chapel 332 West Downer Place Aurora on Monday 10:00 a.m. February 8, 2010. Visitation will be held Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. February 7, 2010 at the funeral home. Interment will take place at River Hills Memorial Park.
