Larry James Goodin

1938 - 2023

Larry James Goodin of North Aurora, IL (formerly of Big Rock, IL) passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 2nd with his family at his side. He was born August 12, 1938 in Bloomington, IL, the son of James and Mary (Bauman) Goodin of Chenoa, IL. Larry married Gloria M. Scott of Aroma Park, IL on September 12, 1959.

Larry attended Illinois State University in Normal, IL and graduated with a B.S. degree in accounting from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL. He received his MBA from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. He was employed at Northern IL Gas Company and Sealmaster Bearings Company before retiring from Allsteel in Aurora.

Larry was a former member of the Big Rock Volunteer Fire Department and was a Charter member of the Big Rock Lions Club. He was a member of the English Congregational United Church of Christ (UCC) in Big Rock. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida and playing cards with friends. The times most special to him were those spent with his family and friends. Larry will be remembered for his quick wit and his love of the sunshine.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Gloria, two sons Mark (Elizabeth) Goodin of Solon, OH, and David (Gina) Goodin of Aurora, IL, six grandchildren: Samantha Goodin (Fiancé Ryan Lloyd), Alexander (Danielle) Goodin, Melody Goodin, Monica (Traci) Wilson, Hutch Goodin, Isabelle Goodin, two great-grandsons: Ekzeteo and Xavi Wilson, sister-in-law Janet Goodin of Pontiac, IL, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Paul & Waneta Scott of Panora, IA, and many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, and sister-in-law Patricia Goodin.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 17th, 2023 at the English Congregational UCC, 301 Rhodes Ave, Big Rock, IL 60511. Visitation will be from 10 am – 12 pm followed by a memorial service. A luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Big Rock English Congregational UCC.
