I remember growing closer to Phyllis when she and Ed would host me either before or after my two-weeks of intensive study at Mundelein University in February and August for three years in the late 80's. After they both were retired and traveling the US in their motorhome, we had the privilege of some extended visits at our place in Lake Havasu, Arizona. Phyllis was always loving and I will always cherish my memories of my sweet sister-in-law.

One of my favorite memories of Phyllis was an occurence that happened back when Ed and Phyllis lived at Fox Knoll, Ed was taken to McCauley Manor for a week or so (I don't recall the issue he was having). I picked up Phyllis to take her out to visit with Ed. Cindy Chase was there when we got there.
Ed told me a story about a trip to the east coast to repair a piece of equipment built by Barber-Greene, and out of curiosity I asked him what the machine was supposed to do. He explained it, and I had no idea what he was talking about. He explained it again, and I was still in the dark. Then a McCauley staff member came in to do some kind of procedure on Ed, so Phyllis, Cindy, and I went into the hall. Once we were out of earshot of Ed, Phyllis explained what the machine was supposed to do in two sentences and I understood perfectly. Somewhat surprised, I asked Phyllis if Ed knew as much about nursing as she did about engineering. Her response, as only Phyllis could deliver it, was, "Oh, I don't think so. I didn't talk as much." My favorite memory of my grandma was when she cheated at Candy Land. My mom and I had gone back to visit her in a nursing home while she was rehabbing from her stroke. She had some trouble with her speech and physical strength, but she was still lucid and sharp. One day during our visit, after giving her a mani/pedi, we decided to play Candy Land. It was Grandma's turn, she picked up a few too many cards, looked through to see which one would move her along the furthest, and then put the rest back. My mom wasn't paying attention, so I called Grandma out and playfully said hey, are you cheating?!. She looked up at me, there was a twinkle of mischief in her eyes, she smiled her great smile, and said, No! like a little kid who just got caught with their hand in the cookie jar. She never admitted to it, but she knew exactly what she was doing. And we laughed and laughed and kept playing. I think Grandma won that round too. It still makes me laugh to think about it. Her smile and warmth are the things I will always remember the best. I am her only granddaughter, and that gave us a special bond. I am so grateful for my memories. I love you, Grandma. *photo of Kevin and Christina Moore with Grandma on her 90th birthday*

"They lived their lives according to their faith." No truer words could be said about Ed and Phyllis. They were wonderful individuals and a dynamic duo as husband and wife, mother and father, and cherished grandparents. Our love goes out to the family.

Deanna, Brian and Cindy and family, Cindy and Mike and family, please accept our condolences as your mourn the passing of your Mom. She was the kindest, most loving and cheerful person and always had a smile. She and Ed loved our family and we loved them and gave such wonderful memories of holidays and Bible studies in their home. May the Lord comfort you all in the days ahead.

Phyllis was truly a kind-hearted and sweet lady. I worked with her at Dreyer Medical Clinic in the 1970's. Also went to Aurora University with Deanna. I'm sorry for your loss, but it appears as though she led a long and blessed life. Janet Fryar Rohlfs
