Scott Ohlen Obituary

May 1, 1953 – June 9, 2021

Scott Von Ohlen died peacefully at his home in Aurora at the age of 68. He was a father, brother, cousin and friend. Scott lived his life on his own terms.

Scott grew up in Aurora and he attended West Aurora High School where he played football and wrestled, going downstate, and taking 4th in the heavyweight division. He went on to college at Western Colorado State in Gunnison. There, he enjoyed his classes, picked up skiing, and worked part-time at the college cafeteria. Scott enjoyed the food industry so much that he opened The Ice Cream Parlor and deli in downtown Aurora when he got back from school. He always loved to cook for others and prided himself on making good food. He loved catering his dad's annual birthday parties.

Later, Scott managed manufacturing at Hansen Mattress Company, the family business in Aurora. When the company was hired to make pads for the homeless, Scott was proud to do his part to help those less fortunate.

Scott loved to learn and went to North Central College to receive his MBA. After receiving his degree, Scott returned to academia and taught economics at Waubonsee Community College up until his retirement. During his time as a professor, Scott influenced the lives of many and was glad to assist students outside of class.

Scott will always be remembered for his jokes and one-liners. Scott enjoyed time with his paternal cousins and looked forward to family gatherings, bringing homemade bread, rolls, and sticky buns. He read constantly, always bringing a collection of books to read wherever he went. Scott enjoyed live music and was always seen at outdoor events. Scott loved working with his hands, and often made it a point to repair his possessions rather than replace them. Scott was extremely pragmatic, and often was a voice of reason when he wasn't being a smart aleck. Scott approached life with a hedonistic mindset and wasn't afraid to indulge in the pleasures of life. We will all miss his presence.

He leaves behind 4 children: Erik, Harrison, Sawyer, and Amaya. He is survived by Linda Flieg, the mother of his children, and 3 siblings: Todd, Ellen and Neal

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in his name can be made to the Marie Von Ohlen Memorial Scholarship Route 47 at Waubonsee Dr. Sugar Grove, Il. 60554.
