Rita,
I was truly saddened to hear about Wally. You were both very instrumental in my early recovery. I will always have fond memories of our times together. I hope you are comforted by knowing how many people's lives he touched. I believe that now he is up in Heaven playing with the Angel Band and cracking everyone up with his corny jokes!
God Bless You during this difficult time-know that you are surrounded in prayer & Love,

I first met Wally in Oct./Nov. 1973 at LGH when he was a counselor on Y-Team. The next time our paths crossed was at the 50th "Birthday" party of Jim McI in Ormond Beach Florida in the late 1990s. There are some people whose impact on one's life can never be separated by time and miles. Wally was such a person. I am forever grateful for the "gift" Wally gave me. Your memory will life forever in my heart.

I met Wally while doing a series of newspaper articles in June 1972 at Lutheran General Hospital's rehab center. He was a counselor whom I interviewed and who was later included in a nationally distrubuted booklet " Bold New Help for the Alcoholic." I shall always remember him as one gutsy guy who greatly valued honesty . Please contact me if you want. I am also wanting to contact an anuthor named Ernest Kurtz, who can perhaps help me fill in some blanks in a book I'm writing. (847) 255-8338

Also singing the song my Grandma wrote "Your not the kind they sing about in Dixie" My condolences to all, he will be sorely missed, God Speed Uncle Wally. Love to you, and my family.

Wally provided a spirit of compassion for those he treated, and one of fun for those of us who worked with him at Provena Mercy. I have a great picture of he and I playing the guitar and banjo at lunchtime on the grounds of Mercy. He was a great friend.

We will remember the fun camp trips and our son, Aaron's, 11th Birthday Party. Wally brought his bag of kazoos and instuments and the kids enjoyed the sing-a-longs on his Golden Birthday. He brought joy in his music.
Our best to his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. I only met him 5 times, but each time was memorable. He was always playing the guitar singing the song Grandma Kate wrote. From what my mom (Debbie) told me he was always the strong one and was a very good man. He will be missed, but is in a much better place now.
