Alfred Miller Obituary

Miller, Alfred Frederick MD
85, passed away peacefully on Thursday June 14, 2012 in Phoenix Arizona. He spent his last years at the bedside of his beloved wife of 57 years, Betty, holding her hand and comforting her. He and Betty will always be remembered for their desert picnics, nature walks, and wine tastings with friends. Al was most at home dining and traveling with his family and watching his grandchildren pursue their special talents. As an avid sailor, he crossed the Atlantic, explored the Caribbean, and with his family and future son and daughter in laws toured the South Pacific. Born in Olney, Illinois, this dedicated physician and surgeon, educated at Northwestern University, moved to Phoenix in 1960 to practice orthopedic surgery. He was an early pioneer of arthroscopic knee surgery. Al was a volunteer doctor for the Arizona Crippled Children's Hospital and Project Hope. Beloved widower of the late Betty Miller; dear son of Beulah and Alfred Miller; loving father of Jennie (Wayne) Oleksak and Steven (Anna); caring granddaddy of Lara, Steven, Katie, and Jeremy; brother of Dr. Thomas Miller (Louise). Memorial service at 11 am on Saturday, June 23 at Orangewood Presbyterian Church, 7321 N, 10th St., Phoenix, AZ 85020. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Project Hope, 255 Carter Hall Lane, Millwood VA 22646. Please visit www.hansenmortuary.com to share online condolences with family.

Dr. Miller was my father's, (George Godfrey) doctor back in the 1960's before he started specializing in knee surgery, he performed his (my dad's) back surgery. He was about the only doctor I ever heard my dad speak kindly of. I know Dr. Miller was very dedicated to his practice. My thoughts and prayers to his family.
