Allan Mayer Obituary

Mayer, Allan C.
On October 28, 2017, Allan C. Mayer's soul left his body to be welcomed in Heaven by his beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Allan was 95 years old. Allan was born in Chicago, IL and later moved to Evanston, IL. He graduated from the Asheville Preparatory School in NC before attending Yale University. After 2 ½ years there, he joined the Army Air Corps and became a communications officer in a P-38 fighter group in the South Pacific theater. After military service, Allan earned a BS degree in Business Administration from Northwestern University. In 1947, Allan married Lois Kurtz as his beloved wife, who recently preceded him in death. They had two sons, Allan, Jr. and Gregory, and a daughter, Kathryn. They had seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and resided in Scottsdale, AZ. Allan became a trainee in the Chicago plant of Oscar Mayer & Co. He was promoted to Plant Manager in Davenport, IA and appointed Vice President of the Company. In 1952, Allan was transferred to Corporate Headquarters in Madison, WI, where he served as Vice President of Plant Managers, Foreign Operations, Corporate Relations, and President of the Oscar Mayer Foundation. He was a Board of Directors member of Oscar Mayer & Co., the Madison Art Center, the Civil Defense Commission, Beloit College, the Barrow Neurological Foundation, the Phoenix Seminary, and the Arizona Heart Foundation. Allan's special interests were glorifying God, tennis, travel, reading and learning. Memorial gifts may be sent to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 6715 N. Mockingbird Lane, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253 or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014. Funeral services will be private. Allan will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
