Bill McMullen Obituary

McMullen, Bill

McMullen (Rasmusen) the eldest of five children: Sisters Mary Margaret Fetsko (Jim) Greensburg, PA, Grace Krawza (Walt) Lakeville, MN, Ruth Ann Kinneer (Jim) Golden, CO and Pat Ettestad (Superior, WI) He is survived by his wife Barb, daughter Dr. Tracy McMullen PhD of Portland, ME and son Michael McMullen of Fairbanks, AK and his faithful companion Barney. He is also survived by his mother-in law Elinor Gagus and sister-in-law Deb also of Scottsdale. He leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews. What this intelligent, kind and generous soul accomplished in his lifetime and the mark he made was remarkable. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Superior in 1960 and leapt into life: Designing and managing the team who designed the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, Heading the Michael Baker Engineer Office in Fairbanks and Phoenix, building Pipelines in Russia or working in the public sector as Director of Design and Construction, AK Dept. of Transportation and always did it with joy. After he refocused he once again sprang into action and implemented a Leadership Program (LEAP) for the Arizona Consulting Engineers. This resulted in over 200 graduates many of whom are now leaders in their companies. He entered the Air National Guard at the age of 17 and retired with the rank of Major. He was proud of his country and also served as a Republican precinct committeeman in LD 8. Special thanks to Dr. Samuel Ejadi of TGEN, Virginia Piper Clinical trials, Gayle, Monica, Mary, Lana, Vicky, Brian and all the staff who helped Bill survive 9 months. Additional thanks to Hospice of the Valley staff.
In lieu of a funeral, there will be a celebration of life in July at the
University Club. Interment will be at the VA National Memorial Cemetery, Phoenix. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary, Scottsdale, AZ

I just heard of the loss. You all have my deepest condolences. I knew Bill in the "early" days as I am Tracy and Michael's grandmother.

“Uncle Bill” and I had a special rapport about exchanging views on business world experiences and on the universe… We both found ways to carry our business talents over into retirement.. We were both into passing on leadership skills, but in very different ways and sectors..

We made a hobby out of following and exchanging all the ”latest” about discoveries in the universe… The fun part of the hobby was coming up with theories on the laws of the Universe that were yet to be discovered… Nothing was beyond our imagination..

Thank you “Uncle Bill” for filling an important role in my retirement… We will meet again in the great beyond.

So many wonderful memories. So many parties, canoe and ski trips, and holidays together. The old gang has truly broken up and we've lost a wonderful friend. Barb, you have been so brave through all this. Bill must be so proud of you as are we all. A wonderful man we will remember with love. Jan Larson

i worked with Bill on the haul road as a geologist and surveyor. Out of all of the people whom I worked with, he was the man I admired the most I, as will all of those who worked with him, will miss his humor, good judgement and kindness. He was one of the few great men that I have ever known.

To my son-in-law, my "son". No one could have asked for a better son-in-law, then you. You made my daughter, "Barbara", so happy throughout your years together. I will miss you everyday. You were such a kind, loving man. You made our family complete. I know you are in a place where there is no more pain and suffering. Love you my dear boy.

You will be truly missed my brother-in-law and good friend. I will miss all of the times I went to you for advise on things. I will never forget the "no buy option", when dealing with car salesman. That really gets them to lower the price on a car. But most of all, I will miss your story's. love you Bill.
