Charles R. "Chuck" Loftin

Charles Loftin Obituary

Charles "Chuck" R. Loftin Born Aug. 18, 1932 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Chuck Loftin passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 29, 2006. He grew up in Seattle and Santa Barbara, moving to Phoenix in his elementary years, then attending and graduating from North Phoenix High School. Chuck married Kathleen Kay Simons in Phoenix on June 20, 1953. They had a son, Mark Charles Loftin, born April 5, 1955, and a daughter, Cynthia Rae Loftin, born July 10, 1956. Chuck was First Lieutenant in the 158th Infantry of the Army National Guard, where he served from 1946 to 1962. In 1952, Chuck went into the printing business with his father, Connor "Pop" Loftin, at Loftin Business Forms, which they grew from a garage operation to a thriving enterprise serving the Southwest. They sold the business in 1975 and Chuck bought the Walking Cane cattle ranch east of Flagstaff which he and Kay operated until 1980. Then they split their time between homes in Flagstaff and the Valley, where Chuck aided his son in his business, Loftin Equipment until his passing. Over his lifetime, Chuck enjoyed boating, water skiing, and hunting, was an avid reader and student of history. His greatest joy, however, was his family, of whom he was very proud. Chuck Loftin is survived by his parents, Connor and Pearl Loftin of Phoenix, his wife of 53 years, Kathleen Loftin, by his son Mark Loftin (and his wife, Nancy) of Phoenix, and daughter Cynthia Jacobs (and her husband, Mike) of Lake Waccamaw, NC, by his grandsons Charles Loftin (and his fiancee, Rachel) of Scottsdale, AZ, Mark Jacobs (and his wife, Brooke) of Santa Barbara, CA, Andrew Jacobs and David Jacobs, both of Los Angeles, CA, and by his many friends. A service celebrating Chuck's life will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at First Christian Church at 6750 N. 7th Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arizona Animal Welfare League at 30 N. 40th Place, Phoenix, AZ 85034, or the charity of your choice.

Dear Kay, we are so sorry to learn of your family's loss. When you bought the house on North Central, it gave us great satisfaction to see that you and Chuck so obviously appreciated its charms and history and would be such perfect caretakers of it. I hope you and Chuck were able to get a great deal of enjoyment out of living there. Chuck was friendly, easy-going, and a pleasure to talk with, and I know he will be missed.

Chuck was a wonderful, kind and thoughtful person. The world is a lesser place with his loss.

God bless and care for those he left behind.

Mark, I was saddened by the loss of your father. I met you and your dad back in 1975 before LBF was sold. I was only 21 years old with little business experience, but your dad believed in my capabilities. I will always be grateful. Take good care of your grandparents and your mom.

Dear Kay, Mark, Cindy, and family,
Even though we trust by God's grace that Chuck is now Dancing with Angels, I know you all are going to miss him terribly. In Psalm 34:18 King David says: "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." I pray that He will hold you close in his arms of love.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing your father, Mark, but his legacy of accomplishment and kindness speaks loud and clear. May he forever be remembered for these. I am saddened for not having known him. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

What a horrible way to close out the year 2006 for you. Chuck was a character. The two of you certainly complimented each other. Your 53 years of marriage looked good on both of you. I'm so sorry you have to go through his loss. My thoughts and sympathy are with you.
