Dale Anderson Obituary

Anderson, Dale V.
85, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away Friday, February 6, 2009. He was born August 25, 1923 in Minnesota. Dale grew up in St. James, MN where he attended high school and Gustavus Adolphus College. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946 after participating in Pacific Theater action. He moved to Arizona in 1947 where he began his career in the hospitality industry. He started as a manager at Lulu Bells restaurant and later opened many of his own restaurants in Arizona and California including Dale Anderson's, The Other Place, The Anderson House and The Quilted Bear. He served as president of numerous community organizations including the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce, Scottsdale Rotary Club, Arizona Restaurant Association, and the Scottsdale Charros. He was an Eagle Scout and was named "1987 Scottsdale's Distinguished Citizen" by the Boy Scouts of America and was also an inductee of the "Phoenix Foodies" Hall of Fame. He was founder and board member of Scottsdale Bank. He also served on the board of the National Restaurant Association, as director of the Scottsdale Boys Club and served a term on the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Commission. He helped to bring spring training baseball to Scottsdale and was honored by the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce for his contributions to the community with an induction into the Scottsdale Hall of Fame. Survivors include his son Scott (Melissa), brother Richard (Joan) and grandchildren Laura and Blake. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, February 17, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3641 N. 56th St., Phoenix, AZ 85018. Memorials may be made to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Foundation or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary.

God's peace be to all of the Anderson Family at this time. We have missed being in Arizona since moving to Florida over 30 years ago. We will always remember his smile and voice. Godspeed.
