Daniel Holly Obituary

Daniel Holly

Our beloved husband, daddy, dad, papa, brother, uncle, son and friend went home to be with Jesus on September 9, 2020. Dan Holly was born in Chicago, IL on July 17, 1961 to Tim and Barbara Holly. One of 12 children, he always teased that his parents had 9 children before they got their "perfect 10"! He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Cannon, in the fall of 1981. They have four beautiful children, Jessica Heilman (Zachary), Lauren (Joshua Wheeler), Megan, and Adam. Dan was also the proud Papa to four wonderful grandchildren, the joys of his life, Mia, Liam, Royce, and Cadagin. Dan was a kind, caring, and compassionate man who loved everyone with total abandon. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing him could not help but walk away a better person. He wasn't afraid of hard work. Throughout his life he worked in retail, landscaping, construction, and finally found his niche, teaching. He was also the junior high leader at his church for many years. Dan began his journey with early onset Alzheimer's disease nine years ago and embraced each day with a smile and positive attitude. He will always be remembered for his infectious laugh and contagious positive spirit. He loved Jesus and his testimony truly showed it. Although Dan's life was cut way too short on earth, we are confident that we will be reunited with him in heaven one day. Dan's life will be celebrated on the afternoon of September 26th. Always looked forward to your VBS skits. I feel sad for all those future VBSers who will never get to experience your humor.

Mr. Holly was my 5th and 8th grade teacher. I remember he would never run out of patients. I never paid any attention, but he was always calm. He also had the perfect response to whatever inane thing I had to say. I'm deeply saddened to see that he has passed, but greatful for the time I got to spend with him.

My heart is so full of great memories of knowing Dan for over 48 years! I’m grateful for the long friendship we had. We were friends, Dan & Nancy, Paul & I, as couples, as church members together, raising our children together, and growing through life’s ups and downs together until now.

Dan was happy, fun loving, encouraging, kind, and giving to others in need.
He was a leader from an alongside position to support - encourage, all with a great smiling expression as if to say you can...” I’m with you! “ “you can do this” ...

I’m beyond “thankful” that Dan knew God and is at rest with Jesus now, after the long trial of having Alzheimer’s!!!

To you , Nancy my dear friend, you have been an amazing wife and support to Dan as well to your family through all of this!

Jessica, Lauren, Megan and Adam, you too have been loving supports through this sad and ever changing journey of illness. Your dad was and is so deeply loved by you all! You remain in my/our prayers for God’s comfort and peace.

In high school we all knew Dan was special. Not because he was our varsity quarterback, exceptional basketball player or homecoming king — he was simply a nice guy. I didn’t know him as an adult, but it’s no surprise to read what an exceptional person he was throughout his life. Dan and Nancy were inseparable in high school and it’s nice to know that they continued their life together. 1980 at Greenway must have been special because Linda and I have also made a great life together. Our sincere condolences.

I will always remember Dan for taking me into his home for holidays and celebrations as if I was one of his own. He always managed to make a room laugh and you couldn’t find a day he wasn’t smiling. He will be missed greatly, but the memories he leaves behind I will always cherish.

I was so sad to hear this news. Dan was a wonderful friend. Our families grew up together in church. Dan and I both became teachers after we had our families, which was a kind of bond we had. I did not know Dan was ill, so this announcement broke my heart. I am praying peace and comfort for you, Nancy and your beautiful family. ❤

Dan was a great Godly man. He was always happy and very funny. The kids who got to spend time with him at VBS really loved him. Our family loved him and Gene loved singing with him. Dan Holly, you will be greatly missed by the Sweeney family. See you again soon!

Dear Nancy and family : Our Dan is now enjoying the beauty of heaven and seeing Jesus and father God. I am sure that Paul & Esther and Faith Ellen were waiting to greet him. As born again believers we know what
awaits us when we pass over. Please remember that we love you all and are grateful for all the good memories we have of our times together. Aunt Janice and Uncle Bob

Nancy, Jessica, Lauren, Megan, and Adam........

Sometimes I look around at all the family we have created over the years and think wow what a legacy we are leaving! Your husband Nancy and your Dad, Jessica, Lauren, Megan, and Adam was the best of the best of us!!!!
The words that come to mind our faithful servant, loving husband and father, best papa ever, sweetest brother, wonderful uncle, devoted son.......I could go on and on and will continue to do so in his memory!
Know that he loved you all unconditionally the minute you came into his life and left this earth still loving you! I got this poem years ago and it has brought me comfort on more then one occasion so I'm sharing with you.........love you all!!!!!!

God saw that he was getting tired, and a cure was not to.
So He put his arms around him and whispered come with me.
With tearful eyes we watched him and saw him fade away,
Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay.
A golden heart stop beating, hard working hands to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best!
