David Hutchinson Obituary

David Don Hutchinson, 76, of Tucson, Arizona passed away on June 20, 2008. Major David Don Hutchinson, U.S.A.F. Ret., navigated his journey into everlasting light on June 20, 2008 after enduring relentless turbulence as a result of Lewy-body dementia. Don's flight plan originated on January 28, 1932 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Don was an R.O.T.C. cadet and diehard fan of the L.S.U. Tigers graduating with a B.S. in agriculture in 1954. Three months later he married the "love of his life", Mildred Ann (Milly) Steinmuller. Military life included assignments in Texas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Alaska, California, Mississippi, Germany, numerous tours of Vietnam and finally, Arizona. A resident of Tucson for 41 years, after retiring from the U.S.A.F., Don's interest in plant science led him to a second degree from the U of A. He then inspected grain for the U.S.D.A. and later worked in landscaping with A.T.P., El Dorado Country Club, Flowing Wells School District and McCormick Ranch (Scottsdale, AZ). For fun, Don obtained his Real Estate Brokers license and with Milly, maintained a holding pattern in real estate during the 1980s. A man of simple pleasures and Cajun wit, Don enjoyed traveling, fishing, a good steak on the grill, cocktails on the patio with family and friends and following his L.S.U. Tigers. Until final orders are granted, Don's personal flight crew will remain grounded. They include his wife of 54 years Milly Hutchinson, daughter Donna Hutchinson-Muri and her husband Douglas Muri (Tumacacori, AZ), son David S. Hutchinson and his wife Laurie and their daughter Riley (Scottsdale, AZ), Kay Hutchinson and his wife Edith (Baton Rouge, LA), and Sister-In-Law Fair Hutchinson, wife of deceased brother Arless (Baton Rouge, LA.) The sun in the horizon and the North Star will be our instruments to guide us back to one another. Until that time, Major Don, you are officially on leave. Friends are welcome to celebrate Don's life-mission debriefing on Saturday, June 28th from 4:30 to 6:30 at the Arizona Inn, 2200 East Elm Tucson, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Casa De Las Luz Hospice, 5830 N. Fountains Ave. Bldg. #2, Tucson, AZ 85704 or Equine Voices Rescue, P.O. Box 1685 Green Valley, AZ 85622. Brings

I thank everyone who knew my dad for their kind words. This was his favorite time of year-the monsoon! He loved watching the lightning, and when it did rain we would call each other several times asking,"How much rain did you get"? I hope we get alot of rain this monsoon season,to hide my tears, and those of my mom and my brother. WE miss him more than I can convey. They say that time helps to heal, I don't know about that, as I want time to bring more rain.

Don was a fine and decent man, and he had a good and generous heart. It was always good to see Don---he was always cheerful, happy and positive.
When Don's LSU Tigers were in Tucson a few years ago we went to the game, and to put it lightly, the Tigers beat the Wildcats bad.
So Don gloated of course, but he was they type of guy that he even did this with a smile and with good cheer. He loved his Tigers, and I'm glad they brought him so much joy (and championships) in the final chapters of his life.
Don was a patriotic American and he served his country for many years with honor and courage. Thank you Don for serving this great country, and may God bless your soul. I will miss him.
