David Preiss Obituary

David Lee Preiss, born June 22, 1935 in Milwaukee, WI died February 22, 2003 in Phoenix due to complications of diabetes. David attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison, studying Journalism, and went on to launch a successful career in publishing in Chicago and New York City. As a young man he earned listing in "Who's Who in America" for publishing his own nationally distributed magazine, "Collage", geared for the "college egghead". David's career included stints with "Playboy" magazine and culminated in a position as Managing Editor of "American Artist" magazine. David also fulfilled a lifelong dream, running a bookstore in NYC, Old Block Books, which specialized in illustrated books. He is survived by his mother, Delores Preiss and his sister Diane Preiss, both of Cave Creek, brother Terry Preiss of Wilmington, NC, two daughters Nora and Jenny, of Palm Bay, FL, and Plymouth, NH, and other family. A service was held at the Starlight Ranch in Phoenix, where David lived since 2001. An interment ceremony was held March 21 at Pinelawn Cemetery in Milwaukee. Those whose lives David touched miss him dearly and remember him with love.
