Delno Bevington Obituary

Delno C. Bevington, Retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer went to be with the Lord and the love of his life, Mary Lou Bevington, his wife of almost 40 years on October 16, 2006. "Where ever she went he would follow." He was born in Barberton, Ohio on June 14, 1930 to Delno S. Bevington and Alice Miller Bevington. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1949. He was a veteran of the Korean & Vietnam Wars. In the mid to late 1960's he trained US Navy recruits in San Diego, California at the Naval Training Center for 3 years straight. He served on many Navy ships but his most memorable ones were the USS ST. Paul and the USS Okinawa. The USS Okinawa was his last duty station when he retired in 1971. He faithfully and diligently served his country and the US Navy for 22 and a half years, when he retired he continued his service to his country by working for the U.S. Civil Service Department in San Diego, California. He worked ship to shore at all the bases there in San Diego, US Naval Station 32nd Street, NAS North Island and the US Submarine Base in Point Loma. His job title both for the Navy and for Civil Service was as a "pipefitter". "There were a few times that he would come home from work soaking wet, only to say that he had fallen into the BRINK." He retired from the US Civil Service in 2001, with a total of 52 years of service to his country. Our great father & grandfather is survived by a multitude of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Along with many nieces and nephews in Arizona and in California. Del and his wife Mary Lou, lived in Chula Vista California for over 40 years. In 2004 they sold their home there and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. So that, Mary Lou could be treated for cancer and he for Parkinson's and dementia. But both lost their fight and are now in God's shining light. Del and Mary Lou are now together for ever and looking down on their family. We Love You And Miss You Tata, Always! A Memorial Service will be held for Del Friday October 27, 2006, 6:00PM at Resthaven Mortuary, 4310 E. Southern Ave., Phoenix, AZ.

Hi Vana and family.

Del and Mary Lou were our next-door neighbors for many years in Chula Vista. I knew him from the time I was 5 to 11 years old when we moved away. However, we were fairly close with them for all those years. My sisters and I have only very fond memories of Del and we still mention him from time to time. He had such a unique laugh and great sense of humor. We would all get together to watch movies in their living room way back then on their new "big screen" 25-inch color tv. He would always serve us all huge bowls of ice cream. I remember watching movies like "Paint your wagon" with him. My dad was disabled since I was 3 years old so Del took me to a few Padre games and even on a trip to Arizona to Sunizona with his friend "Red." He and/or his friend from the navy named "Red" had a piece of land they planned to someday build upon. He and Mary Lou took very frequent trips to Phoenix and they had big dog named Duke. He had an old green Ford pickup truck and he sometimes rode a motorcycle to work, a lightweight dual purpose which fascinated me and I've been riding motorcycles my entire life since then. I only saw him and Mary Lou once again in my life at a grocery store when I was about 15 years old. Nothing but good memories of Del and his VERY memorable laugh.

My DAD! I will miss you for as long as there is the ocean, and the sun shines above. You have meant more to me than my own father. You were my father, my friend and my dad. You had never ending love for me and my kids, Robert, Jason, Tina and Stephen, Isaiah, too. I know that your love was stemmed from the love that was so great for my mom, Mary Lou. Didn't matter to me why but I always knew you would be there for me and mine, and you sure were. Always, everytime we needed you. Whether, we called for dad or TATA, you were always there, or you would tell mom "we will some how manage".
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there for us.
I will see you again, DAD.
Like I told my mom, " when you see Jesus headed my way, you stop him and tell him to wait for you, because she won't come if she doesn't see me". Now you and my mom will be waiting for to come home..... I will miss you Dad!
