Donald Krohn Obituary

Krohn, Donald Eugene Jr. (Donnie)
Donnie passed away peacefully at his home in Peoria, Arizona on September 11, 2010 with his family by his side. Donnie put up an amazing fight with pancreatic cancer. Donnie was born in Decatur, IL on October 26, 1952 to Donald Sr. and Jeanette Krohn. He moved to Phoenix on June 12, 1964. He graduated from Washington High School in 1970. Donnie is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara Krohn, parents Donald Sr. and Jeanette Krohn of Peoria, one brother Dan (wife Sandy), three sisters Decky Runnels (husband Bryan), Deone McClure (husband Bob) Debbie Howard (husband Mike), brother in law and sister in law George and Ali Hicks. Donnie was an amazing son, husband, brother and uncle. He has five nephews, five nieces, eleven great nieces and nephews, and three god children. Donnie worked at Shamrock Foods for 14 ½ years. Donnie and Barb moved to Colorado Springs in 1987. They were co-owners of a successful window covering business (Krohn's Coverings) with brother Dan and sister in law Sandy. They sold the business in 2000 and moved back to Phoenix. Donnie went back to work at Shamrock Foods doing inventory control until he retired and moved to Dewey, AZ. He continued to raise mini horses which he always had a passion for. He started a horse ranch for miniature horses called Broken K Miniatures. He was a member of American Miniature Horse Association. He bred many horses and won Grand National Champion with one of his horses. When Donnie was diagnosed with cancer, he donated all of his horses to Sunshine Children's Home in Mesa, AZ. Donnie lived his dreams and passed away with no regrets. Donnie you will always have a special place in our hearts and will be deeply missed. The five Krohn kids are forever. A very special thank you to Jennifer Milham from Hospice of AZ, Sue McNees and Dave Bundy of Apple Tree Care Center. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Hospice of Arizona. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 18, at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale. Following the service, a celebration of life reception will be held at a family member's home. For more information please contact West Resthaven Funeral Home at (623) 939-8394. Uncle Donnie, I know it has been 7 years since you have passed; I was only 13 years old. But God, I miss you so much. You were such a selfless, amazing man. I know we were never close, but I am so proud to call you my uncle. I think of you every day, and I hope you're having a great time up there in heaven. Rest in Peace Uncle Donnie, you will forever be missed.

Donald was my younger brother. Donnie and I were close, but not that close. We always celebrated holidays together and of course we talked from time to time between holiday events. Donnie cared for his wife Barbara and his animals. He always had a special love for all animals. His minature horses were his children. He had such a kind heart. As most of you know, Donnie was a very quiet person. He never liked to have anyone's attention focused on him. He was humble and kind. I don't think he slept much. Especially when you realize how much he accomplished in such a little time.
It is still hard to believe that somebody who had as much energy as Donnie did can be gone now. He did not need fame or fortune or recognition to know that what he was embarked upon was a good thing. He just knew. I know Donnie has left his presence on everyone that knew him. Treasure those memories now. He had a wonderful sense of humor. I know there were so many times when each one of you found solace in Donnie's advice or friendship or warm gentle ways. And he was the kind of person who didn't force his ideas or thoughts on you. He just listened and made his own comment about the situation. If you chose to do something about it. That was up to you.
Honor and love him as I do and carry his spirit with you.

After reading some of the message left on this guest book, I know that Donnie was the man I thought he would grow to be. I only new him a short while in his teen years and thought then, what a wonderful person he was. Circumstances put our lives on different paths and I'm sorry to say I had not seen him in over 40 years. Donnie, you are free from the pain now, may you rest in peace. To the family, my thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time.

I only met Don and his famly for a brief time. But in that short time I saw a very close and caring family. He was always joking around and made me feel welcome, even in all his pain. He is someone I won't forget. Don, you made a big difference in this world, just like you will in the next. I am glad I got to meet you and your family.

To the Krohn Family. I had the privilege and pleasure to work with Don in inventory control at Shamrock Foods. Don was one of the hardest workers that I have ever worked with. Any time a helping hand was needed, Don would deliver. When help was needed in other departments, Don was the one that stepped up to the plate and did an excellent job. Not only was Don a great coworker, he was a great person. He may be gone for now but I will remember him in my mind forever. My deepest sympathy to the Krohn family. Scott Solberg

I had the pleasure of working with Don in inventory control. Always pleasant and ready to go to work. He shared his love for his horses. They were his babies. My prayers are with all of those who were close to Don and may God bless you all in this time of loss.

I worked with Donnie from 1983 until he left Shamrock. He was very helpful and kind to the "new Guy' and made me welcome. He was one of the nicest, hard working individuals I have ever met. My sympathy to Barbara and the family. Ken White

Dear Uncle Don, Aunt Jeanette, Danny, Debbie, Decky, Deone, Barb and family members,
I can't imagine how you are all feeling right now. I want you to know that you are in Carl's and my thoughts and prayers. I always enjoyed Donnie and remember him as a kind and gentle spirit. He was on earth a short while, but left a major impact with all of his loved ones. His family was large, but his relationships with everyone were loving and strong. You were blessed to have him in your lives. I know you will comfort one another.
Take care of each other, as I know you will do. His suffering has ended, and he is in the hands of God.
