Dorian Kreiling Obituary

Dorian Roberta Kreiling

Phoenix - Dorian Roberta Kreiling, age 64, passed peacefully in her sleep after a well fought battle with cancer on December 4th, 2017.

Dorian was born September 23, 1953 in Huntington Station NY, went to Concordia Teachers college in River Forest, Illinois, worked for an insurance company and later worked at AIBT a technical college helping youth get an education. She, in 2002, received her real estate license and rose to become a well-respected real estate professional in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dorian is survived by her beloved wife and partner of more than 18 years, Melinda Murphy, along with her brothers Mark Kreiling and Bill Sullivan, sons Dan and David Preuss, grandchildren Jared, Erik, Taylor, Danielle, Joshua, Brendon, and Noah Preuss,. Also John and Joan Liemer her favorite aunt and uncle, niece Lacy Magnolia and nephew Colton Kreiling, as well as many loving cousins and many friends. She was adored by so many!

Dorian committed both faith and action to disadvantaged youth stigmatized in the LGBT community. As a foster parent, she and her wife Melinda fostered seven at risk youth in their home, and are very proud of all their foster kids and grandkids. Dorian was widely known for her humor and 'stand-up comedian' talents. She was also a faithful reader of the obituary page, yet in her zeal for life she never wrote her own obituary. If you are reading this in the newspaper - GRAB A PEN NOW! (…right, Dorian?!)

A celebration of life will be held in Phoenix on January 20th 2017 at Beatitudes Church 555 W Glendale Ave 2:00 pm In lieu of flowers, please donate to the the Community Church of Hope (www.communitychurchofhope.com) or One-in-Ten organization (www.onenten.org)

Just received word of this sad news through our college magazine. Though I only knew you for two years - you made such a connection in my life. I loved my first trip to New York to visit your family over the Thanksgiving holiday and our long drive back to RF in your Jeep. I know there are smiling faces in heaven now because your sense of humor was fabulous. I have used your line "Got any hot gossip, tales of lust or violence, stories of outright perversion..." so many times - but no one could say it like you. God bless you Dorian and my sympathy to your life partner.

I met Dorian when Melinda and I were singing with AZWIT. She was a vibrant strong woman with dancing eyes, a beautiful smile and a great laugh and a humor that I could identify with immediately. I remember when they began fostering children. They always took the children who had been the most traumatized. Their home was a sea of calm and acceptance that provided the peace and love these little souls needed in order to begin their own healing journey. During that time I offered to care for the 2 boys for an entire weekend so they could that they could take some much needed vacation time for themselves. I remember coming to meet the boys and review their routines and schedule. Being a nurse and babysitting hundreds of children and teens I wasn't worried about my abilities to care for them. Dorian and Melinda's "notebook" of schedules and routines and attention to detail, well it was more detailed than any Nursing Care Plan I had ever written or been assigned!! But in my mind it was a perfect reflection of the love and kindness of who they were. Their love and admiration for one another impacted all of their friends, family, acquaintances and clients in such an incredible way. Dorian and Melinda were pillars of the community, they were committed to providing the time and effort to serve LGBTQ at risk youth and so much more. Dorian, your kindness and joyful attitude was contagious. You were a gem, filled with joy and compassion. You leave a gaping hole in those lives and organizations you shone your light upon. We are ALL grateful to what you brought to the planet. May you rest peacefully with returned memory and shine your light to Melinda and your family and friends. No soul ever dies, they just change form. Enjoy your wings....

Melinda:

Dorian was quite something....always a smile on her face with a witty and humorous comment to be shared. I feel quite lucky in having known her.
She was also good with kids and really had a big heart. Both you and Dorian were so helpful when my father died in 2003, and I will always remember that.

Beautiful smile, wicked sense of humor, a witty comedian. A kind hearted woman who gave joy to all she came in contact with. You and Melinda have always been pilliars of our community. You've both given so much to foster children and LGBTQ youth thru your work with one n ten. I am grateful our paths crossed and sad that there won't be more times to share. May Melinda, your children and grandchildren feel your warmth inside them and their memories hold them in a place of peace and love....

January 4, 2018

Dorian always seemed to me to be fully present in the now. She would turn her eyes to you and she was there, with her whole self. Over the years, we went house hunting, we laughed, we shared serious stories of our lives, we enjoyed a bite to eat or a glass of wine, and we were happily present at those moments. I am sad that we didn't get to see each other one more time before she continued on her spirit journey, but she touched me and everyone she knew with the light of her essential warmth, good humor, and kindness, and I am grateful to have known her. I hope that with time, the memories of the terrible struggle of these last several months will fade and both Dorian and those who have loved her will remember only the essential happy light she shone in this life. Godspeed, dear girl! I hope we meet again one day. Wishing peace and comfort to Melinda and all who mourn your loss in their lives. xoxo

To Melinda, your sons, brothers, grandchildren and family members I am so sorry for your loss. May the memories of all she brought to your lives be with you always and bring you a tremendous amount of joy and comfort. Sending you a lot of love.

I remember the first time I met Dorian. She was subbing for Melinda, a broker I had been working with about a month. She was friendly and upbeat, and I liked her immediately, but I really knew I was with the right brokers when she pointed out all the things wrong with the house I was finding tempting on that second visit to it. She asked numerous questions about my likes and dislikes and needs, and clearly was more interested in finding the right place for me than in just making a sale. After I bought another house, my husband and I truly enjoyed our long dinner with Dorian and Melinda discovering what wonderful people they were. The world should not have lost so valuable a person so early.

Dorian was a light and inspiration to a great many people. Her kindness was without limits as was her friendship. I feel blessed to have been her friend and love her. Her advice to me has been invaluable. In her passing, she's left a void physically but her presence will remain in the hearts of all who loved and admired her.
