Douglas Butcher Obituary

Douglas Anthony Butcher, Sr.

Douglas Anthony Butcher, Sr., was born on December 11, 1965 in Baltimore, Maryland. Doug loved riding motorcycles, bicycles, dirt bikes, any action sport, he could do flawlessly even if he had never tried. He was a fighter, any obstacle and any battle he would go in headfirst, guns blazing. He lived wide open, that's just who he was. He was someone who looked at everything with a glass half full mindset, he always looked at the positive and never dwelled on the negative. Doug never let any health diagnosis stop him, surpassing the 10 to 15 year kidney transplant, as well as surpassing the 6 to 9 month terminal cancer. He believed in giving more than you take, to always think of others before yourself. Doug always spoke of the importance of influencing the next generation, he was the teacher to many children, the father to many sons, the mentor to many untaught, he was it all.

At the age of 18, Doug started Newport Drywall, he always believed that every man should have a trade to fall back on, this was his, it supported him for many years. Then at age 31, Doug started his business, Industrial Rideshop. He wanted it to be only a small side job because he just loved doing the stuff, but then the action sports industry took off and he went from 1 shop to 21 across the country. The reason for the name he said was because Industrial has so many possibilities. It could be so many different things. Industrial gained much attention from media outlets, allowing for it to become a major hotspot for extreme sport enthusiasts. He created a place for kids to come to have fun when they may be in dark times, getting away from any issues they may have. It was a place where he could influence the younger generation. With Industrial he was able to sponsor many up-and-coming athletes, and give them the backing they may not have gotten from others. He believed in many. Not only did he want something great for the kids, he also always looked out for each employee. He felt a personal responsibility to not only help his employees but their families as well. He was a family man. Industrial lasted a solid 20 years, collecting many faithful employees, loyal customers, and lovers of skate.

On January 29, 2021, Doug passed away due to Covid-pneumonia, he fought a hard race, and crossed the finish line. He will be remembered and loved by so many, truly touching hundreds of lives.

Doug is survived by his wife Gaye Butcher; children Skyler, Douglas Jr., and Madison; brothers Mike and Tommy; sisters Susan, Lauren, and Tricia; and his ten nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held from 10:00am - 12:00pm on Sunday, February 7th at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Road Scottsdale, AZ 85254.

One thing that Doug found very important is the Arizona Kidney Foundation, we ask that if people want to send their condolences to donate towards them. Rest in Peace. Visit hansenmortuary.com for online condolences.

I was heartbroken to learn of Doug’s passing. It’s been a while since we were in touch, but Doug had a powerful influence on my life in business. He wasn’t so concerned about being politically correct : ) but he always kept it real and challenged the status quo. He showed respect to those who earned it in his eyes, was very loyal, and had the backs of his own. He was a proud father and family man, above all.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to have worked with Doug, learned from him, and call him a friend.

My sincere condolences to his family. I’m so sorry for your loss.
