Edward Flood Obituary

Flood, Edward Joseph III
age 80, a retired Private Investigator, went on to the Kingdom of heaven July 14, 2010. Born in Yonkers, NY, he was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the 1st Marine Division, graduate of ASU, and a Maricopa County Deputy Sheriff in the 1950's. Ed dearly loved his family, daughters Laura Flood and Maria Townsend, son Randy Wear, grandchildren Scott and Cassie Townsend, step-grandson, Brandon Townsend, nephew Kenneth North and niece Maria Flores. He instilled a strong patriotism in them for America. They enjoyed his stories and experiences, many humorous from law enforcement and investigative days. He had an appreciation for dogs beginning with the honorably discharged "Buddy," a War Dog from the K-9 Section U.S. Army, the Flood family German Shepherds, and later enjoyed Laura's Catahoula Australian Shepherd, "Champie." He also loved his cat, Ethel. Through a trip overseas and visits from Austrian cousins, Ed opened a new door of family ties that continued with his daughters' trips to Europe. He enjoyed his good friends, and the Diamondbacks and Sun Devils. Ed built a postcard collection of the U.S. comprised of over 7,000 cards. In his quest to know God, in the last year, Ed read several books about how Christianity shaped the history of America. Military service will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, Arizona, August 6, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. followed by a reception at the Townsends. Semper Fi, we love you Dad. Contributions can be made to Phoenix VA Health Care System 650 E. Indian School Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85012-1892 in memory of Edward Joseph Flood III.

Dear Ria and Laura,
I am so grateful to have known your father. I have so many fond memories of your dad. He had a great sense of humor. He was my dads closet friend in many ways for almost 50 years. They were good buddies. Playing lots of tennis and watching and talking sports. They both loved to talk about their girls. God has a good solider with him in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Please give your mother my best. Love, Krista Few (Roy Fews daughter)

Ed,thank you for the gift of your daughter Laura who I have had the pleasure of working with this past year. She is kind, thoughtful and loves all of God's creatures and I can tell that came from you even though I never met you personally. She shares her faith, love and hope with everyone she encounters. You have instilled your work ethic, patriotism and love which your family reflects to others. May your light shine always.

I never met Ed Flood. But I am a friend of his daughter Laura and was so pleased to hear of his search for the Lord that Laura talked about with me. She was so thrilled with his questions. God's promise is that when you search for Him you shall find Him. What a glorious celebration when he again sees his family in heaven. From her decription of him, what a wonderful man. A celebration of his life is in order. May God bless each member of his family. As they walk with the Lord Jesus Christ, they have the promise of that reunion in heaven.

May I add my thoughts of respect and admiration to you of Ed's family. I love Ed and believe he's in a better place right now. I think the best thing for us to do is draw strength from Ed's strengths. May God bless each of you and your families. Gil Maxwell

Dear Dad,
I love you and miss you. I thank you for your example of years of humor, patriotism and hard work ethic. I am so thankful that you sought out the reality of God in books of historical facts, archeology, science, the Bible, and prayer. I believe you found the one God who died and rose again; three in one: God, who sent His son as Jesus to earth and left the Holy Spirit to draw us back to Him. I believe you answered in your heart, because of God's faithful promise in Jeremiah 29:11 through 14 and many other places in His living Word. "You will find me when you seek me with all your heart." He created us not as robots, but free people, to choose to dwell with Him forever. One day we will see you and the fascinating continuation of God's creation, plans, jobs and purpose for us. With Love, your daughter, Laura
