Eileen Abberton Obituary
Eileen Abberton, 78, of Peoria, went to heaven with the Lord by her side on February 6, 2011. Born in Tureencahill, Gneeveguilla, County Kerry, Ireland on December 13, 1932, she left her parents home on September 9th, 1955 and sailed aboard the ship RMS Mauretania, bound for New York Harbor, and then by train to Chicago to "have a look around." It was there that she met her best friend Steve Abberton and they were married on April 18th, 1959 at St. Mel's Church on Chicago's West Side. They were inseparable for 52 years. Together they have two children, John (Kimberly) of Glendale and Kathleen (Joseph) McLoughlin of Chicago. Eileen was affectionately known as Grandma "A" to Erin, Sean, Molly, Kelly and Mairead. She was the oldest of nine children born to Bridget (Collins) and John Daly. She is survived by her sister Bina (John) Collins and brothers James (Bridie), Paddy (Helena), Donal (Kathy), Christy (Mary) and Michael Daly of Ireland and William (Angela) Daly of Chicago, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son Stephen, her granddaughter Bridget Rosary Abberton and her brother Jerry Daly. Friends and neighbors who graced her door were always treated to fresh baked homemade scones or Irish soda bread and a cup of tea. She was loved by all and will be missed by many in the Phoenix and Sun City Irish Community. Visitation will be this Thursday from 4-8 at Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 West Thunderbird Road, Peoria, with the rosary at 7:00. Funeral Mass 11:00 Friday at Saint Clements of Rome Catholic Church, 15800 Del Webb Blvd, Sun City. Internment private. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Irish Cultural Center of Phoenix (www.azirish.org), the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul or the charity of your choice in Eileen's name.

Dear Steve, Robert and I were saddened to hear of Eileen's passing. I loved and admired Eileen. She was a gracious, loving, and wonderful lady who always made us feel welcome in yeer home. And she had such a great Irish sense of humor. I have thought of ye often since leaving Arizona and the good times we shared at the Shamrock Club.

We are so sorry for the loss of Eileen. She was a wonderful friend to the McKeever family. We will miss her dearly and we will cherish all our memories of the get-togethers with the Abberton's and McKeever's. We had some grand times together camping and celebrating life!
