Eleanor C. Horan

Eleanor C. Horan passed away peacefully at home March 10, 2020 at the age of 101. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Robert V. Horan MD, her brother Harry Francis Kline, a daughter Marjorie Cecil Horan and a grandson Eric Kilian.

Eleanor was born July 11, 1918 in Minersville, Pennsylvania. Her father Harry Francis Kline died three months later in the 1918 flu pandemic. Her mother Eleanor Cecilia McHale Kline died six years later.

Eleanor was a graduate of Misericordia School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Following graduation she served as supervisor of the Misericordia ER until marrying and starting a family. Eleanor remained an active Red Cross nurse and returned to hospital nursing after raising her family. Mrs. Horan was active in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church choir and eucharistic ministry, volunteered with the county health clinic and the public library in the Globe Miami community where she lived for 58 years prior to moving to Scottsdale to live with family. Eleanor loved playing bridge with her many friends. She also enjoyed playing the piano, playing Scrabble, daily crossword puzzles, reading and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

She is survived by her son William J. Horan MD, daughter Ellie M. O'Connor (Art), daughter Catherine M. Kilian, son Robert V. Horan, twenty grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, a niece, a nephew and close cousins. We were all blessed to enjoy her love and her positive witticisms into her 102nd year. She will be greatly missed.
