Erik Glucksman Obituary

Erik T. Glucksman December 06, 1926 - November 18, 2007 Born in
Vienna, Austria, Erik was the son of the town's mayor. Unfortunately he believed in a religion that was not compatible with the then growing Nazi menace. In 1939 at the age of eleven Erik, his sister and mother were forced from their home to witness the execution of their father. That year with the strength and determination of Erik's mother the three of them escaped in the middle of the night and after a very long journey made their way to America. At age twelve Erik entered school in New York and by age sixteen through much lying and forging documents was able to enlist in the U.S. Army. Determined to help his new country rid Europe and the world of the axis threat and with his ability to speak several of the Northern European dialects quickly moved up through the special military police ranks. He ended up assigned the task of grave identification at several concentration camps at the close of the war. Miraculously he was able to rescue a still living uncle just barely alive at a camp and get him to a allies field hospital, he survived. To the very end the nightmares of his job at the camps haunted him. His military awards and metals were too numerous to list on this page. He took an Honorable Discharge from the military in 1953. Erik's passion in life was to serve and protect people in need. He joined the New York City Police Department after leaving the military. Retiring from the police ha and his wife moved to phoenix in august 1980. With as many police and F.B.I awards as his military awards he was unable to sit still. Slightly disabled from former gun battles, Erik went to the Glendale Police Department and volunteered over a thousand hours of specialized training to any task they wished to assign him. To the very end all of us who knew Erik knew that he was a gentleman. If you called him he never had a bad word to say about anyone or anything and would never end a call without asking if you needed help with anything, as he was all willing to help. Survived only by the love of his life, his wife, Elfie. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 26, 2007 from 6:00 PM to 7:00PM followed by a Funeral service at 7:00 PM at Phoenix Memorial Park & Mortuary Chapel 200 W. Beardsley Rd. Phoenix, AZ
