Esperanza Hernandez Obituary

Esperanza "Hope" G. Hernandez, 67, of Phoenix passed away February 25, 2004. Hope was born in Tolleson to Evaristo and Luz Gortarez. She lived in Phx all her life. She worked as a cashier for years with Fry's and Smitty's. She also worked as a union rep at AFSCME and recently worked at Greer-Wilson Funeral Home and Gortarez Funeral Home. Hope was active in politics and ran for South Phoenix JP. Hope was known for her generosity and the caring she gave others by cooking meals to giving rides or assisting those with filling out forms and documents to any other way she could show people she cared. Hope is survived by 4 very special friends Monica Medrano, Adolfo Medrano, Louis Noriega and Cindy Larson, her children: Luz Apodaca and Arnie Hernandez, 5 grandchildren; Elizabeth Apodaca, Max Apodaca, A.J. Hernandez, Arman Hernandez and Mark Anthony Aguayo, 1 great granddaughter, brothers; Evaristo Gortarez, Manuel Gortarez, Ernie Gortarez, Robert Gortarez, Raul Cordova, Rudy Cordova, Jesse Gortarez, Frank Gortarez, Carlos Gortarez and Michael Gortarez, sisters; Yolanda Gortarez, Minerva Diaz, Erlinda Gortarez and Gloria Grisetti. Visitation will be Tues., March 2, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 6802 S. 24th St, Phoenix and funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. the following morning at the church.

Hope had served as a member of the State Board of Dispensing Opticians since July of last year. She always served with pride and dignity. She was a very outspoken and honest person. She will be missed. The Board's thoughts and prayers are with her family.
