Evelyn Alyce Preston

Phoenix - Evelyn Alyce Preston, 94, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on May 1, 2019. She was born in Jackson, MI, on April 5, 1925, and grew up in Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Preston, her parents, Frank and Elizabeth Apitz, and her brother, Russell Apitz. She is survived by her niece, Nancy Sanneman, grand nieces and nephews, Matthew (Jennifer), Thomas (Elyse), Carrie Sanneman (Jordan) and Jodie Cox (Tyler), granddaughter Stacey Dooley, and her dear friends Miguel and Maricela Alfaro. She was devoted to her husband, Jay, and their dogs. Evelyn was an inspiring woman who lived with confidence and curiosity. She loved to travel, garden, entertain, and work on their homes in Ontario and Phoenix. She was always learning about the people and places she visited. She graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Northwestern University. She was a flight attendant for American and Aloha Airlines and the WNAA honored her with the Meritorious Service Award. Evelyn lived in Taiwan during the Korean War and assisted in monitoring activity before starting Wayfaring Travel with her friend, Ridgley Powers. Evelyn eventually took over and ran the business until she retired. A memorial service will be held at 11AM, Saturday, May 18 at Hansen Desert Hills Chapel, 6500 E. Bell Rd., Scottsdale.
