Frances (Fran) Wardell

Scottsdale - Our beloved Fran, of Scottsdale, passed away on July 16, 2021. She was born on August 24, 1927, in Freeport, IL. She was preceded in death by youngest son, Richard J. Stevenson. She is survived by loving husband, Richard Wardell, step-son, Brian Wardell, sons Jim Stevenson and Roger Stevenson. Grandchildren Amanda Lefkowitz and husband, Lance, Bill Stevenson, Sally Stevenson and Joe Stevenson. Great-grandchildren Jaden and Brianna Lefkowitz. Fran grew up in Freeport, IL and graduated High School in 1945. She attended the University of Arizona and graduated with a Secondary Degree in Education. Fran was a charter member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, played in the U of A Marching Band and Tuscon Symphony. She taught 4th and 6th grade for 29 years at Pima School in Scottsdale. In 1970 she received her MA Degree in Special Ed. for the classroom teacher. Fran retired in 1988 and remained active in many areas of volunteering by singing in the choir for 70 years, teaching Bible School and participating in the Caring Ministry Group at PVUMC. She was also in charge of flower deliveries on Sundays and Holidays for PVUMC. Fran was an active member of Tri Delta and was in charge of fundraising, organizing and delivering holiday greenery for 23 years. Fran was named Tri Delta "Woman of the Year" in 2020. She organized monthly luncheons for retired teachers and Tri Deltas. She seldom said no to any service activities which she thoroughly enjoyed. She visited many friends who were unable to drive or get out, along with phone calls. Her faith, love of life, and love of God were evident in all she did. Working out, swimming and gardening took up her spare time. In 2010 Fran married Dick Wardell, her High School Sweetheart. The romance was rekindled after 62 years.

Fran donated her body to the U of A Medical School for research.

The Memorial, "Celebration of Life" will be at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church on August 14th at 11:00 am. Donations may be made to Tri Delta Foundation, Music Ministry at PVUMC or the National Cancer Foundation.
