Gene Sikora Obituary

Gene Sikora, beloved husband and father, departed this life for a far better life with God on Tuesday, June 10, 2008. He was born in Heide, Germany, and became an American citizen when he was 11. He was a strong patriot, an Army veteran, and a dedicated and loyal friend. He loved campfires, his big dogs, and a good meal with family and friends. Gene leaves behind his wife, Karen, his son, Jordan, his mother, Hildegard Sikora, and his father, Rudolph Sikora, as well as many other family members, lifelong friends, former employees, and co-workers at Home Depot where he opted to work during his retirement since he was spending all his time there anyway. He will be greatly missed, especially his sense of humor and gentle and mischievous smile. A memorial service will be held at Christ Anglican Episcopal Church, 35500 N. Cave Creek Rd., Carefree, Arizona (½ mile North of Carefree Highway) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2008. In lieu of flowers, Gene asked that donations be made in his memory to St. Augustine's Academy, P. O. Box 3637, Carefree, Arizona 85377.

I will always remember Gene walking in through the back door with Jordan to pick up Karen after work with the biggest smile on his face. Big hugs and kisses always followed. I am so lucky to know the Sikora's--a family full of love and laughter. I am so very sorry for the loss of Gene. All my love to you Karen and Jordan! You're in my thoughts and prayers always.

My memories of Gene go back to when i was quite a bit younger. The family gatherings made such a wonderful, loving impression in my mind that I still cherish them to this very day.

Where to begin,,,,I became involved in this family in 2003. The one thing I can say for sure is how much Jessica, Kiley, Brady and I will miss Gene. He was a great man with an even greater love for Karen and Jordan. I can not tell of the numerous times Gene had me rollin in stitches. The jokes, the comments just seemed to never end. In the short time, I felt like Gene was just as much my uncle as any of my others. He was greatly loved and will be missed!!!

I remember Gene's enormous capacity to love. When you came into contact with him, he would charm his way into your heart. If Gene wanted to know you he would win you over before you knew what hit you. Once you got to know him and love him, you knew that he would never let you down. This was a great feeling.

Gene was already a great guy when I met him, but he grew to his best potential when he became husband to Karen and father to Jordan. Karen and Jordan completed Gene. Karen, Jordan and Gene were terrific together together.

I especially remember the road trips where I had the opportunity to travel with the family. On one of these road trips, a car in front of us annoyed Gene by going too slow or too fast. He reached under his seat and produced a flashing red police light which he stuck on the dash. He kept his hand on the light as if someone might take it away. Karen was quick to insist that Gene put the light back and as he did he looked over at me with that big smile and his devilish look. I could not stop laughing because of the timing and what was said back and forth; well, you just had to be there.

Everything was an adventure with Gene even a trip to Costco. I would follow Gene around the store in amazement. We saw all things mechanical and electronic, all gadgets large and small and all blinking lights and sounding alarms. And, if it came with wheels, even better. We ended each trip with pizza and hot dogs from the Costco snack bar. Pizza and hot dogs never tasted so good.

Bizarre things always happened to Gene. Back in the day in DC, we had a serious boss named Bill. One day Gene was missing and after a while Bill came out of his office nearly in tears. He stood in the middle of the room and could barely speak for laughing. "Gene just called in and will be a little late today. As he was riding down the freeway with the top down he sneezed so hard that his partial plate went flying out of the car. He is now walking up and down the side of the interstate looking for his teeth."

I am thankful that I have all the adventures, stories and memories. Gene's absence will leave an empty space that cannot be filled. Over the years to come, I may be going along and remember something that Gene did, said or something that happened to him and I will smile. Someone may ask me; "Why are you smiling?" and I will only be able to say, "You had to be there!"

Thank you Gene, Karen and Jordan for letting me be there. God bless you Gene. I will always miss you.

I'm not sure where to begin.........15 years ago, I was blessed to marry into this family. From the first time I met Gene, I admired his unconditional love he showed for his family. He moved my family from Washington to Arizona, he gave my son his first car and he spent endless hours helping me remodel a home. He always had the greatest smile and laughter.........from the holidays to the fall picnics. I will sooo miss you but I know you are keeping George Carlin laughing in heaven!!
I love you Gene.....

To My Sister & Jordan*
We have so many fond memories of Gene. Trips with you and Gene to Seattle, Rocky Point, visits the two of you made to Appleton, Washington to see us, numerous camping trips, BBQ's, huckleberry pickin' in the woods and our annual Fall picnics (Gene's favorite).
The memory of Gene I will always carry in my heart however, is his selfless devotion and kindness to his family. He was "tops" in that department. I can only hope that we all measure up to half the person he was. He was good and kind to children and animals, that alone is testimony to his character.
I'll play a lot of "Little Feat" for ya Gene and I hope they have hot wings and backgammon in heaven.
I won't say "good-bye" (although we miss you so much) BUT, we'll see you later dear brother. I love you!

Dear Karen and Jordan,
We will all miss and keep on loving your husband and father. Although we can't see him, he continues to be with us each and every day! I didn't have the opportunity to be around him very many times, but I can say the times we were together were wonderful! He always had a smile and could make anyone laugh. The first time I met him was at your home for Thanksgiving in 1995. I think of that time often. It was wonderful! I was welcomed with "open arms" by all.....I remember him loving Marie Callender's pies, the Sun's, Sunday's newspaper and yard sales. I also remember an ice cream maker??? I believe he loved ice cream.....I can still see the love and proudness in his eyes as he introduced baby Jordan to me. He was bursting with pride, joy and happiness. May you always have your wonderful memories and we will all meet again one day....Gene, let me bring the pie this time :). Love to all of you, Linda

Gene was a dear friend for more than 30 years. His sense of humor, his lust for life, and his kindness are only a small part of who he was. Gene was one of the few people in your life that always seemed bigger than life. His smile and laughter lit up any room he entered. Gene, Karen & Jordan, you are in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless....

Gene was such a wonderful husband and father. He loved good food and being around the family. He could find humor in everything. Gene could fix anything. We were in Show Low at the same time and my clothes rod fell down from the weight of the clothes. Gene got out his tools and fixed it so that i could swing on that rod and it would not come down again.
I was at Gene and Karen's wedding and he was a great addition to the family. What a loss for everyone.
Until i see you again, goodbye for now.
Love always,
louise

Gene has always been a good friend since the first time we met many years ago. I,for one, will always remember trips to Rocky Point, camping, Bisbee and going to the Race Track after work. He had a great sense of humor and a heart bigger than Texas. You will be forever in our thoughts.

My heart and thoughts go out to Karen and Jordan. While working with Gene for a few years and knowing him through Karen after that, I will always remember him as the guy who never wanted to grow up. I always admired him for that. Gene was always a fun and nice person. He will be missed..

Wow, where do I start with a wonderful man like him. I am one of the few that was lucky enough to call this outstanding man my uncle. I was blessed to spend my holidays, special occasions, and "just because" times with him. He always left me laughing and I never wondered if I was supported by him. He was sure to let me know how proud he was of me and I never had to guess if I was loved. I will miss him dearly and the way he made us all laugh with the funny stories or jokes. I will definitely miss watching him sport his "Suns" socks, as he was so unique. Uncle Gene, I want you to know that I am so proud to call myself your niece and will miss you until we meet again. Until then, give our family a hug for me up there and know I will think of you often. Love you always!
