Even though "Beaver" (as he was known to all ham radio operators) passed away three years ago, the nightly Morse Code group he held together for so many years still meets at 7pm, Monday through Sunday, every day of the year. Whenever I am in charge of the session, I announce it as "being in honor of Charles Beaver, AB7BI." His legacy as a radio friend lives on here; I'm betting that he is pounding-away on that key in heaven! - WA7URV

Jean and family,
I'm so sorry I didn't know Charlie had passed until this afternoon. I didn't get a paper Sunday before last, and just saw the notice online this afternoon. Charlie was always a good friend, and very knowledgeable, always using common sense.

I never got to spend much time with Charles (Chuck) however I have always heard amazing stories from anyone that knew him. Stories of how smart he was, how much of a hard worker he was and how he loved his family. He leaves behind a great legacy. His work on earth was done and now is free from pain. I have the entire family in my prayers. May our Heavenly Father comfort your hearts.

For those who don't understand the fraternity of ham radio operators, I'll try to describe it. Imagine knowing a World War II vet for nearly 15 years. Both you and he have directly shared stories and experiences nearly every day of those years, even though you've only been with him in person three times, once during a breakfast meeting, once during a swap-meet and once during a visit when he was in the hospital. All the other daily interactions weren't even using the common English language; instead, they occurred using Morse Code. After only a couple years, it was easy to know that he was doing the sending because each of us has our own unique Morse Code "fist" (our particular style or "accent" in how we send). Charles Beaver, radio call AB7BI, passed away on April 9, 2016, five days after his 93rd birthday. He re-energized my interest in sending/receiving code, and I came to know him by his last name, "Beaver." His eyesight was failing; his physical strength was also failing. But his code sending at higher speeds was pretty darn good. We think of Beaver as now being "SK." Each night when I end my sending run, I properly end with the letters "SK." When a ham finally leaves this world, he becomes known as an "SK." SK in ham radio talk means "Silent Key." Another one of the old-timers has left us. I hope they have good radio gear in Heaven. Rest in peace, Beaver. - Phil Westover WA7URV

Beaver was my first Ham Radio "Elmer". I was very involved with his Morse Code "CW" net for many years. I also had wonderful times with Beaver at the Hoodview Amateur Radio Club Field Days on Larch Mtn. It is very unfortunate that I will be boarding a plane at PDX and won't be able to attend his service. 73 Beaver BCNU. AB7TU.

Such a kind and generous man. I will never forget when you bought me a ticket to spend my sisters last days with her. You helped everyone you could help. You always cracked a joke or two,I always laughed. It didn't matter if they were funny, just the way you told them!It is with an ache in my heart and tears streaming down my face I bid you farewell.Until we meet in heaven, can you say hi to Fran? I was most proud I got to call you Uncle! May God hold you in his arms, with much love your niece Deb Hanson
