George Darrell Olson

George Darrell Olson, 90, owner of Jewels by G. Darrell Olson, passed Sunday May 16th 2021, in Phoenix, Arizona. Born in Salt Lake, Utah to George and Lois Olson. Noted jeweler for over 50 years along the camelback corridor, he was a valley business Icon. Known for his little white puppies who came to work every day, he never really retired from the "diamond" business. Involved for more than 75 years in the jewelry business, he created beautiful pieces of jewelry for many celebrities like Charlton Heston, Elvis Presley, Jim Nabors, Barbra Streisand, Evel Knievel and many of the Phoenix Suns basketball players. A world traveler, adventurer who went around the world twice. His last adventure was with his daughter and granddaughter to Iceland. He loved cruises with his grandchildren. Lifelong member of Lions, Rotary, E.A.G.P. and the Phoenicians, Boy Scout Leader, Man of the Year EWI, Phoenix Historical Society Honoré one of the Phoenix 40, Mayors Council, Jewelers of the World member. And an avid dog lover!

Survived by wife Bonni Hayden Olson. Children Linda Pridmore, George Randal Olson, Lana Cerise Gomez (Ben), Lisa Jean Molina, Lori Brooke McFarland (Scott), Dr. Darrell Gregory Olson (Allison), Christopher Marcus Olson, Darlene Broadbent (Terry), Susan Barton (Jim), Shelli Fox (Steve), Major Thomas Stockdale (Jessica), son-in-law Alfredo Molina.

31 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren and puppies Georgie and Mickey Mouse.

Sisters Marilyn Pope, Utah, Arlene Summerhayes, Utah. Ex-wife Sandra Olson, Nevada.

Celebration of life will be held in October 2021 in Phoenix Arizona exact location to be determined.

Sincere condolences to the Olson family. I’m an old friend of Randy’s from ASU days in the early 70s and met G.Darrell, Cerise and other family a few times at their Camelback house and have never forgotten them. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

My last moments with my friend were special and ones that I will forever keep close. He was a a second-father figure to many. Always legendary and a contemporary of the best of Phoenix from a generation of Phoenicians who made great contributions to this world. To his large extended family- keep making him proud!
