Georgina Kranitz Obituary

Dr. Georgina A. Kranitz, 54, of Scottsdale, passed away on October 2, 2003. She was born October 25, 1948 in Wallsend on Tyne, England. Gina was President of Paradise Valley Community College for the past four and a half years of her 34-year car-eer with the Maricopa Community Colleges. Gina was an active professional and community leader. She served as president of the Western Association of College and University Business Officers and as chair of the board of the National Association of College and University Business Officers. Additionally, she was a member of American Association of University Women, American Association of Community Colleges, the American Association of Women Deans and Counselors, the American Association of Women in Community Coll-eges, and of Phi Theta Kappa, an education honors society. Locally Gina was a precinct committeewoman, an officer of the Arizona Women's Political Caucus, a member of the board of directors of the North Phoenix Chamber of Comm-erce, and a former delegate to the Arizona Presidential Nominating Committee. In 1999 she received the Mari-copa Community Colleges' Women's Leadership Distinguished Achievement Award. She also received Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards from both Nova Southeastern University and Grand Valley State University (Michigan). For the past three years, she was selected as one of the top ten women, in higher education in the state of Arizona by Today's Arizona Woman magazine. Gina is survived by her husband Mike Kranitz, her mother and father Betty and Jim Bage, her mother-in-law Dolly Kranitz, her two sisters Margaret Bage and Jacquelyn Martinez, her brother and sister in laws, Pat Kranitz, Kathy Hilderhof, Rick Kranitz, and Tom Martinez, as well as her nieces and nephews Roger Adams, Michelle Adams, Mindi Hudson, Christin Kranitz, Matthew Kranitz, Paige Gilliland, Allie Gilliland, Belen Martinez and Tomas Martinez. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, October 7, 2003, First Christian Church, 6750 N. 7th Ave. Phoenix. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate contributions be made to Paradise Valley Community College, for a scholarship fund in the name of Gina Kranitz. A collection box will be at the service.
