Glenn Aden Obituary

Aden, Glenn E.
Lt. Col. (U.S. Air Force, retired), 89, was welcomed into the loving arms of his Savior on April, 13, 2010. He was born to Edw. J. and Clara (Schon) Aden on March 22, 1921, in Palmer, Iowa. He was a resident of Arizona for 39-plus years. Since 1983, he spent his winters in Mesa and his recent summers in King City, Ore. He enjoyed golf, either on the course or on the television, bowling and playing card games with his friends. He was a founding member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Mesa. During a 28-year Air Force career as a navigator, he served during World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam era. He was stationed at Strategic Air Command bases in Hawaii (Hickman), Florida (MacDill), California (Castle) and Michigan (K.I. Sawyer) before retiring to Arizona in 1970. During his career he flew 30 missions on several aircraft including the B-24, C-54, KC-97 and KC-135. He received several honors including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with five oak-leaf clusters and an EAME Ribbon with five bronze stars. He is survived by wife Joanne, daughter Pamela (Gregory) Beihl, and sons Mark (Debra) Aden and David (Tiffany) Aden; six grandchildren, Aden (Katherine) Beihl, Glenn (Elizabeth Estrada) Beihl, Elyse Beihl, Charlotte Aden, Brian Aden and Katelin Aden; three great-grandchildren, Lincoln Beihl, Archer Beihl and Olivia Beihlestrada; and sisters Leona Greenley, Berniece Brager and Arlene Brummel. He is also survived by stepchildren Steve Garner, Ted (Becky) Garner; Terri (Leighton) Johnson and John (Roxanne) Garner; eight stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife Gloria Jean (Boyd) Aden, his parents, his stepmother Tena (Eiben) Aden and brother Robert Aden. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 20 at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave., Tempe. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 21 at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 2540 W. Baseline Road, Mesa, with a reception following. Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 22 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix. Memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice. Arrangements were handled by Tempe Mortuary.
