I'm not sure that this is the correct forum for this but I'm looking to contact MSG Childs next of kin or someone from his chain of command. Greg, it been five months, and I think of you every day, I still can't believe it. I have had many friends and colleges to die while deployed. But you touch me the most, when I think of you tears flood my eyes, even now as I type this. I still remember our class/BNCOC/2000 at Ft. Jackson, where you kept us laughing. And I will never, ever, forget you, my friend. BNCOC, Hotel Mugruder Billeting!, was one our cadence we use to call.

Today at Corpus Christi church in Aliso Viejo, CA, my wife Carolyn drew Sgt. Gregory Childs name from a list of servicemen who died this year serving our country. We want to say "thank you" Gregory for your love of country and fellow Americans in defending our freedoms. We don't know you but we are still connected by being fellow citizens and children of God. May God hold you in the palm of his hand and continue to bless your family and friends here on earth while you wait to be reunited with them for all eternity.

Greg...thank you for a being a dear friend; thank you for all the support you provided; thank you for being a true American hero. I will miss you. I will always think about you. May God bless your family in their time of sorrow.

Everytime I think of you I think back to when we were stationed in Ft. Carson, CO. You were a great NCO and leader. We all have great memories and laughs. You were the best MSG Childs. It was definitely a blessing knowing you as a person and fellow soldier. You will be terribly missed!

Twice a year in Holliston, MA, the VFW and American Legion volunteers put up sign along the streets of town of the fallen heros. M/Sgt. Childs is the sign in front of my house. May he rest in peace, a noble hero. Thanks.

CHILDS!!!!! It is true that God truly does take the best first!! You were a gift to all that knew you! First, my deapest sympathy goes out to the Family, Friends and Loved ones of MSG Childs. I knew MSG Childs from the PSB at Fort Sill Oklahoma. I was a PVT then,he was one of the best NCO I have ever met. He gave us guidance and motivation to get to the next level. I didn't quite understand things then in the military but you could always count on him to teach you the right way of doing things. I was stationed with Greg at Ft. Devens back in about 94. He was a quiet, yet strong soldier, and kind hearted person who always did the best he could. He always set the bar high for standards, and challenged others around him. Greg, you lived a full but way to short of life. My thoughts and prayers go out to you, your daughter, and your family. Greg and I grew up 20 minutes from each other in small towns in Arkansas. We were stationed in the same unit 20 yrs ago at Ft. Devens, MA. Greg made me very proud to claim him as my "homeboy" during our time stationed together as he always conducted himself even as a young soldier as a well raised God fearing man whom had been "raised right". He never strayed from the small town morals and values instilled in him. As proud as I was when I heard he'd been promoted to MSG is just how sad I was when I heard of his passing. My condolences go out to his family....stay strong. Though you loved him, God loved him more. R.I.P. to a fellow soldier, homeboy, and friend.

I am sorry for the loss of Master Sgt. Gregory Childs. By many accounts by his colleagues on this website, he was a good guy who lived a life well-lived. My deepest sympathy, to Gregory's family, friends and military unit.

MSG Greg Childs had the heart of a giant and a rare form of courage which allowed him to accomplish many goals in his life. He was beloved within our DLA J-1 Military Personnel family and by many he touched throughout his Army career. He made us all proud to have a friend who spelled out "courage" every day of his life.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to MSGT Gregory L. Childs our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Gregory. And to Gregory it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for his service in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while serving with the U.S. Army. No greater love and patriotism is shown than a man lay down his life in service to his country. Gregory, you are a brave Army Warrior and a true Patriot. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

Gregory was so much more then a Soldier! He was a father, son, brother and a friend. He loved life! He was the life of every party! He knew how to make people laugh! Gregory loved his daughter and his trips to Puerto Rico. He loved some carrot cake at all the DLA picnics he would make sure to hide one so he could take it home. He was such a clown!! It was my priveledge and honor to have known Greg!! He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him! His spirit will live on through his daughter and his family. Rest in Peace my brother!!
