Harry Esh Obituary

Esh, Harry L.
Harry Lee Esh 82, of Glendale, AZ joined our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 2:32 AM at his home in Glendale, AZ surrounded by members of his family. Born February 15, 1929, he was the son of the late Marian and Lydia (Zook) Esh of Belleville, PA. He married Miriam Elizabeth Musselman on October 29, 1950 who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was a son Dennis Lee Esh, eight brothers, and one sister. Surviving are two sons John (Reva) of Lindsborg, KS and Jerry (Dianna) of Glendale, AZ; two sisters Florence Sharp of Allensville, PA and Rosella Wyland of Rockville, PA; six grandchildren Chera (Yusef), Daniel (Aaren), Benjamin (Cassia), Amy, Katie and Cassie; and three great grandchildren Luke, Abby and Isaiah. Harry loved music and sang in many choral groups, choirs and quartets at Rockville Mennonite Church in PA and then Trinity Mennonite Church in Glendale, AZ where he attended for many years. This continued to be a great source of inspiration for him, and was his favorite type of music. While he lived in Lindsborg, KS he attended Evangelical Covenant Church and enjoyed attending musical programs put on by various colleges, churches and schools; some of which his granddaughters Amy, Katie and Cassie participated in. He loved playing word board games with his grandchildren Chera, Dan, Ben and his son Jerry. He was an avid reader, loved walking and hiking; especially in the Arizona desert and in Northern Arizona, and never gave up on his favorite sports team, the Phoenix Suns. Harry was a highly respected and well liked 7th grade school teacher for William C. Jack Elementary School in Glendale, AZ. He attended Arizona State University where he earned his Master's Degree in Education. Harry was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather ("grandpa"), great grandfather ("great pa-pa"), brother and friend to many. His love for the Lord guided him throughout his life and was reflected in his love for others. He will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service will be held in Belleville, PA and he will be laid to rest beside his loving wife Miriam at the Allensville Mennonite Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Heritage Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Esh was a great teacher. As he wrote on the blackboard on the first day in his class in 1977: ESH = English Spelling Handwriting. Discipline was the rule in his classes. Fondly remember John Gallegos once carrying on a conversation whilst Mr. Esh was trying to teach us. He sternly told John to be silent twice and stop interrupting the class. John called him a old, bald-headed (profane name) and threw a pencil at him. He told him to go to the principles office. John refused and Mr. Esh calmly walked over and took John by the ear and assisted him to the principles office.

Mr. Esh was my 7th grade teacher at Unit Six in 1978-79. I will always remember him as man of dignity and great patience with our wayward seventh grade personalities. He was a great influence in my life and I have remembered him fondly for many years. I look forward to a heavenly reunion someday.
