Henry Salinas Obituary
(1951 – 2017) Henry D. Salinas, 66 from Chandler passed peacefully in his Maricopa home after a long battle with neurofibromatosis 2. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 46 years, Yolanda Salinas and immediate family when he was reunited with our heavenly father. He was born in Lubbock and is survived by his; wife, two sons Henry and Fernando, two daughters Araceli and Yolanda; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Henry was an amazing individual who blessed the lives of everyone who was fortunate to know him. His life was dedicated to endless volunteer service on many fronts to include improving the lives of at risk youth in the City of Chandler. He was the founder of Improving Chandler Area Neighborhoods (ICAN). He was a proud veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Army. Henry has been recognized and a recipient of many awards for his selfless service to include; Celebration Plaza Inductee-2007, Hon Kachina Award-2003, Chandler Cup-1997, but the one he cherished mostly were the beautiful smiles on joyous ICAN kids. An amazing; father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, neighbor, and friend. The Salinas family would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that supported him through sickness and in health by showing him love, friendship, and making amazing contributions to ICAN. Viewing services will be held Saturday, November 25th at 09:30-10:30 at Hamilton High School, 3700 S. Arizona Ave, Chandler, AZ 85248. Memorial service at same location from 11:00-12:00 with burial immediately following at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd. I remember Henry, from back in the late 80s/early 90s, when he volunteered at the Chandler Boys & Girls Club.
He was one of the nicest, community oriented, people that I have ever met. Each year, back then, he put in endless hours, at Thanksgiving, to head the cooking team for the annual Boys & Girls Club Holiday Dinner. It was amazing to see the selfless time, energy and commitment, that Henry put into his volunteering, ...and it was always with a smile.
I did not know him, other than volunteering along with him at the Club, so many years ago, however, he made such a strong impression on me, of how one person can make such a huge difference for so many.
As time went by, and he created ICAN, I was even more amazed, & impressed, how he went on to give bigger & better opportunities, and positive programs, to the youth of Chandler. There are few like Henry, and Chandler was, and is, blessed, for having him as one of our own. God Bless and RIP, Henry. You will be missed by many.
