Hildegun Kolossvary Obituary

Kolossvary, Hildegun "Gundi"
Gundi Kolossvary was born November 16, 1937 in Zilina, Slovakia, to German parents. Her father was a chemist with Bayer Gmbh. During the German annexation of the former Czechoslovakia, the family was relocated to Western Germany, where they remained throughout the World War II years. Upon completion of her education, Gundi left post-war Europe and emigrated first to Canada and finally, after a few years, to the United States. Upon settling in San Francisco, Gundi began the balance of her life when she met Geza, and the two discovered their shared love of a life full of dancing, singing, skiing, nights at the opera and the symphony, and participating in bridge tournaments as well as informal bridge evenings. Entertaining and traveling were also shared sources of joy. They married in 1968. They moved to Phoenix in 1979 and continued to pursue their shared passions in a new environment with new friends being added to their wealth of friends and family. After retirement, the addition of her beloved dog, Tessa, was the fulfillment of another of her dreams. The loss of her husband, Geza, after forty-five years of marriage was met with class and grace. Coming to terms with her diagnosis of incurable cancer was also an effort accompanied with dignity, courage and finally acceptance. With many friends who surrounded her on the last days, she passed peacefully on May 3, 2015. Gundi is survived by her sister Ingrid and her brother-in-law Otto and their two children in Germany. She is also survived by her brother in law Lazslo and sister-in-law Babu and numerous other relatives of her husband in Hungary. She was predeceased by Geza in 2013. Gundi will be greatly missed by family and the many friends she leaves behind in both America, Canada and Europe. Remembrances may be made to Hospice of the Valley, the SPCA, or an animal rescue facility of your choice.
