James Crane Obituary

Crane, James (Jim) Franklin
Jim Crane, 67, of Phoenix, AZ passed away suddenly Friday, September 26, 2014. He was born on June 6, 1947 in Dennison, IA and grew up in nearby Dunlap. Jim was a member of the Army National Guard with 20 years of proud service. He was a graduate of Iowa State University and went on to complete his law degree at University of Arizona in Tucson. Jim traded in his suit and tie for a tee shirt and flip flops. He had a very busy retirement life traveling often from Phoenix to his vacation homes in Carlsbad, CA and Rocky Point Mexico, which were his favorite places to enjoy his time with family, friends, and beloved lab Sam. Notable mention to his Oceanside buddies with whom he spent many mornings on the pier building close friendships, solving the world's problems, and enjoying the ocean. A diehard Wildcat fan since his college days, Jim looked forward to a championship season in basketball this year. Go Cats! Bear down! Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Lynne Crane of Phoenix, AZ; son Joshua Crane of Scottsdale, AZ with his wife Joanna and their daughter Gillian; son Benjamin Crane of Denver, CO; son Todd Crane of Tucson, AZ; stepson Andy Wolfe of Phoenix, AZ with his children Zachary, Burgandy, Hailley and Benjamin; and stepdaughter Jennifer Carmody of Phoenix, AZ. Kind, compassionate, caring and funny are a few of the words to describe Jim. Steve and I spent lots of Friday evenings with Jim at Chuys. Started with Todd doing his homework and trying to win a stuffed animal. After seeing Todd Friday, those days seem eons ago. Jim was so proud of his sons and finally traveling more after his union with Lynne. Love and good thoughts to the Crane family. We all have our gladiator in heaven!

Dear Josh, I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing. I have only kind memories of him even though it has been many years since I last saw him. One of these memories is when you were a baby and you and my daughter Briar were playing on the floor. Jim was sitting in a chair with your dog Thurston and they were both singing "Thurston's a good boy." together. He clearly loved his kids and Thurston of course. My thoughts are with you.

I was very sad to hear of Jim's passing. He had the best smile and made everyone feel welcome in his presence. He was a reasonable and intelligent man who worked hard on behalf of the owners at Princesa de Penasco in Rocky Point, MX as a member of our HOA Board. He will be missed here in paradise. God Speed, James and may the Spirit of Love and Light and Healing be with the family.

I did not know Jim well, but as a co-worker at SCF, I knew enough to know he was a great attorney, a Wildcat for Life, and a beach lover. He is gone too soon-my thoughts and prayers for all of his family and friends.

Family of Jim Crane: I wanted to express my words of sympathy on Jim's passing. It was such a shock to hear of his untimely death. I knew Jim from the Arizona State Compensation Fund, as it was previously named. Jim often spoke of his sons (he was SO proud of them) and his second home in Rocky Point. I'm SO sorry for your loss.
