James Herbert Obituary

James "Malcolm" Herbert, 57, passed away on April 2, 2008. Born in Boulder, Colorado and reared in "Baca County" Colorado, Malcolm came to Arizona to attend U of A on a football scholarship. After graduating in 1973, Malcolm did what he loved to do. He traveled the country via the rails then became a Cowboy, a Ferrier, and a Thoroughbred Race Horse Owner. He was an important part of the Marjon Ceramics family where he was in charge of I.T. while able to enjoy being a Horseman. He was politically active with the Democratic Party and ran for the office of Maricopa County Supervisor savoring every minute of his campaign. Malcolm had a true heart and a huge love for life. He loved his family unconditionally and made sure they knew it. He enjoyed an occasional shot of tequila and laughed out loud at the funny papers. He is survived by his Parents, Ida & Truman Morgan, wife, Elaine, Daughter & Son in Law, Shannan & Dean Vickery, Grandchildren: Britanie and Christopher Vickery, Siblings: Mark (Shirley) Herbert, Stephanie (Lyle) Davis, Toni (Pat) Turner, Kelley Herbert, Jill (Tim) Jeffres, Step Brother Dempsey (Patty) Morgan and Aunts Scotch Timm, Maxine Gibson and Winnie Devoe. In addition to many in-laws, nieces and nephews, he had an extensive list of cousins and friends. He appreciated every single one of them and made time to visit with them whenever and wherever possible. There will be a celebration of Malcolm's life on Saturday, April 12th at 3 p.m. Please contact the family for details. In lieu of flowers, make a contribution to the charity of your choice. He would be just as happy if you chose to donate time as money. Whichever works best for you.

I met Malcome in August of 1969 as one of the 120 fresman football scolarship players @ the University of Az in Tucson. I was immediately impressed with his 'Cool Hand Luke' easy, freindly style. He was not rattled in the least by several of the aggressive, loud and abbrasive coaches whom pushed us continuiously for the first two years. He was talented, strong and tough with good hands. Malcome was the only player I have ever seen whom was able to play football with a tooth pick in his mouth. That became his trademark. His presence in this world is greatly missed.

My prayers go out to you Elaine, and family. It's been quite awhile since I have seen Malcom, but I remember him to be a kind hearted man. He will be sadly missed. But will be remembered in our hearts.

I remember Malcolm as a big man, being very quite, laid back, and easy going, but he had a big heart and loved life, and he had a jolly laugh. Our prayers go out to Elaine and his family.

Malcolm always had a smile on his face. He was a true man of customer service and will be missed greatly.
