Eldon, Jane Margaret Rasmussen
91, born to Neils Christian Rasmussen and Margaret Eva Cook Rasmussen on April 26, 1918 in Oak Park, Illinois, passed away November 26, 2009 after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her husband of nearly sixty years, Robert M. Eldon and her daughters Nancy Eldon Lewis and Susan Eldon Deter, as well as her grandsons Christopher Deter, Brian Deter and Adam Lewis, and her son-in-law, Jay L. Lewis. Jane was a gifted teacher of French and Spanish languages at high school and college levels for over forty years, retiring in 1980. She was a textbook author as well. She and Bob moved from Naperville, Illinois to Phoenix, Arizona in 1986. She loved to travel and study abroad. She was a multitalented woman: a loving wife, mother and grandmother, a wonderful and well respected teacher, a skillful cook and baker, a devout Christian who was a strong member of her church wherever she lived. She was a gifted pianist and organist as well as choir member in her younger days. She was also a creative knitter and seamstress who taught her children well in the domestic arts. She was preceded in death by her by parents and her only brother, Donald Rasmussen. Services will be held at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave. in Glendale, Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at noon, with visitation at 11:00 AM at the Mortuary. Burial will be at approximately 2:00 PM at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road in Phoenix.
