Janice Sears Obituary

Sears, Janice Ruth
70, of Waikoloa, HI passed away on December 16, 2016 in Iowa City, IA. Jan was a music and art teacher before obtaining her degree in counseling, and became a high school guidance counselor at Greenway High School in Phoenix. Later she worked in the Glendale Union High School District office. Upon retirement, she moved to Hawaii with husband Leo and produced the Big Island Film Festival for 11 years. Jan was a self-less giver and was always trying to help however she could or provide guidance to others: no matter if a family member, friend, neighbor, or even a total stranger. She is survived by her husband Leo, son Jeff, son-in-law Aaron (Bossler), grandson Eli, step-mother Dona (French), kidlet daughter Sheila (Yetter), and other extended family members. She was proceeded in death by her parents, William "Bill" and Imogene French. She was planning a move to Iowa City, and had hoped to volunteer at the Crisis Center of Johnson County, a cause which her son Jeff supports as a volunteer board member. In lieu of flowers, those who knew and loved Jan are encouraged to donate to the Crisis Center of Johnson County at www.jccrisiscenter.org/memory-jan-sears and leave a memory or message.
