Jeff Umbaugh Obituary

Umbaugh, Jeff "Jake"
Jeff Umbaugh, 47, of San Diego, CA entered into eternal peace on September 18, 2011. He spent his childhood in Phoenix, AZ graduating from Madison Simis Elementary and Central High School '82. A fiercely devoted Wildcat and member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity; Jeff graduated from The University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. His professional career was spent with Johnson Lift/Hyster of Southern California. Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents and beloved pets Jasper, Hamlet and Geraldine. He is survived by his parents C.W. Umbaugh and Danielle Karr; Aunt Cheryl (Richard) Lilly, sister Jennifer (Tom)Newland, Nephews Ryan & Alec Newland, brothers Dan Cheatham, Jack Fox, Pat Onofrio; as well as 'The Debbies', their exceptionally understanding wives. His SD family included lifeguard Casey Owens, buddy Jeff Farmer and longtime love Krista Dossett; as well as countless lifetime friends. Jeff was an avid reader, loved fishing in the ocean, college football; and truly despised that AZ college team with the devil mascot that rhymes with 'Barky'. Jeff was a true character, a free spirit; stubborn, sensitive and complex. He made a lasting impression on all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Godspeed Jakey; watch out for the pelicans, "rats of the sea." At request, no memorial service will be held. A gathering of family and friends will take place in Phoenix, AZ to celebrate his life. I met Jeff 17yrs ago while hiking a mountain. The first thing I noticed was his big happy smile. We would go hiking(bed rock), biking, driving down his favorite road (listening to Beast of Burden by the Stones), we even snuck into the Phoenix Open. Jeff moved to San Diego and sadly we lost contact. I am very sad to hear you are no longer with us. You left me with so many crazy, fun and wonderful memories. I miss that smile. Your friend always. Well my friend, I guess our deal will work out as you planned... I am thankful for knowing you all these years and your continued friendship even when it seemed lots of time passed between us. A ton of memories we shared amongst many great friends will always bring a smile and at times lately a reminder of how much we missed. I am so glad that I went to see you memorial day weekend... Until we meet again my friend, I will hold onto the tequila....for you.... Bill Silver

Maybe the good ones go first? Not sure but I know your amazing smile and hugs will be missed. Out of all the idiots; I liked you best!

Wow unbelievable news, Jeff was always one of the "Wildest" Wildcats. It was that wild spirit that drew others to him. In the fraternity and after college he was always the go to guy for fun and a good time.

My prayers and condolences go out to Jeff's family. May his free spirit stay with all that knew him.... Debbi Anthony-Douglas, Central High classmate and fellow "cat".

Jakey, Despite giving me "Evil Woman" for Christmas in 1975; I know you really loved me; as evidenced by the KISS poster you gave me in 1976. Nobody has ever made me as mad as you have; nor have I loved so much. I used to hate that we were the same age for 6 weeks each year; but loved it as we grew up, as you bearly had time to give me grief before it was your turn at a birthday. My boys will now have a giant 'Uncle' void, too large of shoes to be filled by anybody else. I will miss your charasmatic smirk tremendously. We were very proud of you, always.
Love you lots, Jenny

I remember Jeff from the 4th grade through college. I remember a little "toe head" that got in a fight with me at Simis in the south field to the person who later became my friend. Rest in Peace Jeff.

Only met him a few times through my life long friend, and his forever love, Krista Dossett. I knew he had to be someone special for her to give to him the "extra" time she ever had. May you rest in peace, Jeff.

Like all the times you scouted out parking places for me, save a place for me. I love you. Flipper
